I'll be sure to give those tracks my attention Steven. I'll not dismiss the album until I give it another try.

I do love the film though.

Hmm, I think I'd add 'A Sniper's War' to that playlist too (and my advice is listen to it in that form rather than listening out for those tracks in the entire album). Comes to a nice round 40 minutes. Anyway, whenever you listen to it, I'd be interested to hear your thoughts, this score seems a little under-appreciated round these 'ere parts... probably because it's such a long album and has the infamous Four Note Danger Motif™.

...and anyone that refuses to make a playlist like that just because "it's up to the album producers to make a better listen" are missing out on a great score experience! That's 40 minutes of Horner bliss, mark my words. cool

Yep, especially when it takes so little effort. (Which is why I'm astounded when people flat-out refuse to do it!? I can't get my head around that one.)

    MICHAEL GIACCHINO - up

Highly entertaining and feel-good listening experience. A heart-warming and fun mixture of THE INCREDIBLES and M:I:III's action tracks, all through the LOST spectrum.
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.

NP: Playing By Heart - John Barry

This is another album I've been spinning a lot recently. A worthy addition to the 'jazz in scores' playlist, indeed. Top late-night chill-out listening.

    cool

This album is near quintessential late night chillin' cool I love the Chet Baker tracks too which blend excellently with Barry's score.

That's right, they are excellent also. I'm sitting here with a glass of wine and I can't think of a better way to be spending my last night in Oz. Bliss.

NP: Star Trek - Michael Giacchino

Still haven't seen the film... I know, I know... hopefully I will remedy that this Sunday night. Anyway, I like the score. My favorite three tracks still remain "Nero Death Experience" - "Nero Fiddles, Narada Burns" and "That New Cat Smell" While the theme isn't a great one, it could easily be one of the most catchy themes ever written. Still don't like the use of the original Star Trek theme. Doesn't fit with the tone of the score. Should have stuck with the fanfare and that's it. Or, at least pull a Goldsmith, Horner and Rosenman and play the theme nice and sloooow. IMHO, the theme works better at that pace.

For the most part I like Dan Wallin's more spacious recording. However, the percussion still sounds AWFUL. vomit The snares sound incredibly weak with a bit of a delay which sounds more like light taps instead of a tight snare sound.

Overall, it's a solid score and a well presented album.

It's New CAR Smell. Not Cat. Doesn't cat just sound completely stupid to you? What does a new cat smell like out of interest?

Well, yeah. But I assumed it was a Giacchino joke title that I simply didn't get. I never thought to check the back of the CD case to see if it was different. Until now. Sorry.

So no MOH: Frontline style percussion, shame because that was absolutely spot on... The whole recording of that one was absolutely fantastic!!

I've still to listen to Star Trek and see the film but what I don't get that is that in our local multiplex the movie is already degraded to a small room with a teeny tiny screen (still large enough) and 50-ish seats. And it's only been playing for two weeks or so. How is the movie doing in the US? I hope it doesn't bomb, or you can say goodbye to sequels. The movie's getting good enough reviews so this sure comes as a surprise.
