    In it's rightful place cool

I found the film incredibly fun.
I find the music incredibly moving. wink

    I love the score.
Is the movie worth tracking down?

I actually meant to say - 'I found the film incredibly funny'. To me, it's pretty bad. Not nearly as moving as it thinks it is.

NP: Star Trek: The Motion Picture - Jerry Goldsmith

The kind of Goldsmith I like! smile
  2. NP: Samsara (Cyril Morin)

This score has an absolutely gorgeous love theme, and uses a beguiling blend of distinctive ethnic textures. This did not, of course, save the CD from heading to The Box, although I'm having second thoughts.

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooo!

How can you? The main theme alone is worth a treasure. And those ethnic chants in other cues especially Maniwall makes this one of my fave Morin scores along with Zaina. cry
  3. You're right. I possibly have gone too far this time.
However I can play it off my hard drive any time, and can skip the cues with sound effects more readily, so it doesn't practically matter that it's in the box. wink

God! I love this score to pieces! This might make it into my top 20 scores.

I see what you mean. I haven't yet ripped my collection and I've been wanting to for quite some time. All of my stuff are in boxes and very inaccessible-- I need to lift and move all the papers and other stuff on top of them.

I absolutely love this CD. I would love to hear what this composer could do with a big budget Hollywood blockbuster score. I

May I suggest watching the movie first and then deciding?
  5. Can you describe the character of the music a little? Based around a couple of themes in a romantic classical idiom, would you say?

    NP: Adoration (Mychael Danna)

Another fine entry in the Egoyan-Danna collaboration. Quite ominous in feel - particularly the role of the solo violin in the music.

Adrian's music is always elegant, deeply melodic and on the late 20th century romantic style. Deeply recommended are his works and a completely overlooked composer.

Heard it once; oddly dark installment for Danna.
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.
  6. Oh, I think Danna does dark quite a bit for Egoyan's films... (where the truth lies, felicia's journey, exotica)

  8. Amen to that !!!!

    beer

    Star Trek (Michael Giacchino)

Getting better... I like what I'm hearing, if I forget for a minute that this is Star Trek music. But as Giacchino music it's definitely more interesting than Lost and M:I III for me.

And the theme is finding its way into my brain as I write this. Hooray for memorable and catchy.

Hmm, quite. The complete score is a great listen too, as Alan recently mentioned. Creates quite a different perspective on the whole score since there's a few inclusions of Courage's original theme.

I can't wait to see this film on Blu-Ray just to hear the score against the wonderful imagery!

It's not a very good film but damn is it watchable!!!

I can't remember the full details but as far as I remember Goldsmith wasn't happy about including Courage's theme!?

So goes the story, yep. I think Courage himself was brought into to compose a few scenes using his original theme if memory serves?

I think Goldsmith was absolutely right not to want to include it, but even so I think the complete score is a fantastic experience.

If it wasn't for Schindler's List, I'd say JAWS is Spielberg's best film.

Oh, I'm not saying that Goldsmith wasn't a great, influential composer who will be long remembered; I'm saying that I haven't much cared for the other stuff by him that I've bought. But Star Trek: The Motion Picture is great (in my opinion, in addition to in fact). smile

    Very arguable.

Jaws is darn near perfect, Schindler's made me cringe once or twice ( and not for the right reasons )
