  1. The James Bond theme 'broken down' to make an action theme! I already sounds like a great action theme and has been used as one very effectively already.

All this Bond-mania is just wearing me down.

I'm loving it! Especially today + this weekend (going to Beaulieu to see the cars). I just hope it keeps up until the end of the month!

The soundtrack just got a cover (no surprises here, in terms of design). I was actually hoping for a full tracklist today as well, to coincide with the release of Adele's song, but I'm sure that will follow shortly anyway.

Ugly font work, but at least they used the best poster art.
  2. It sounds awesome, but I know better than to go off a 30-second clip.

That certainly is Newman! And the music is not that unexpected actually. punk

  3. PASS.

Not because of the HUGE build up leading to it, not because it's not Bond music of a Barry-gone era, but because I did not like this music at all.

I hope for a new composer next Bond film.

And you judged that from sound clips without watching the movie or listening to the CD at least...once?
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.
  4. Listening to those 3 tracks I am quite encouraged with what I heard and am looking forward to hearing more.

I do still find myself thinking "it doesn't sound like a PROPER James Bond score" but none of them have sounded like that for many years. wink

I like the sound of the rhythm-based passages: quite good on the ear.

There are several hints to Thomas Newman-isms here and there and I am hoping that these "-isms" are not going to be too obvious - I don't want to think of this score as just being something like Finding Nemo for adults. Is the original James Bond theme going to feature at all?

Bring on the rest of the score...

I wondered about that myself, not if they are featured at all, but if they are featured outside of the usual moments like the gun barrel and end credits, since not a single hint of it is given in these tracks. Of course we're still in the prequel stage in regard of the franchise, with Arnold only hinting at the original themes at certain moments, so let's hope Newman takes this tradition and takes it just that bit further this time, instead of falling back.
  5. Was that notion of the theme not being used in the "prequels" in a full form part of the idea? Or just conjecture.

It's a Bond film. It needs the theme!!

I believe it was the first. It wasn't used in Casino Royale until the final moments, when Bond utters his signature 'the name's Bond...'. I remember an interview with Arnold in which he mentioned it back then, or maybe he told us in Gent when we were chatting with him (at the night Quantum of Solace was first shown elsewhere - he was a bit nervous about that). Of course, Casino Royale doesn't even feature the Gun Barrel theme, whereas Quantum introduced it. So there's definitely a pattern.

Are you kidding me? Those clips are awesome. Now I really can't wait for the whole score to come out.

Exactly. There's those of us that need not EVER see a movie to enjoy a score. Most my personal favorite scores, in fact some of the greatest scores I've ever heard, are to movies I've never seen, or only seen portions thereof.

Listen to the whole CD? We'll just have to disagree here. I don't know about you, but there's been NO CD I can ever remember disilking some tracks from and then liking or loving after listening to the whole thing; it only cements it further.

    I don't need another disjointed-listen CD, thanks.

Fresh for a Bond score? Or in general? Cause the latter isn't the case with the same samples I heard.

Thomas Newman in particular is rarely a composer who is experienced best in small doses. His scores tend to be very carefully written, arranged very carefully on album (rarely in film order), and I find the albums usually very rewarding even if small bits in isolation don't seem to do very much. He is most definitely a "whole album" composer. (I haven't listened to these clips - I'll wait to get the album - which hopefully is imminent!)

I'm impressed at anyone who can fall in love with THE BRAVE LITTLE TOASTER and demand a score release without having to see it.

    Hi Guys

@BobdH: That's great! Thanks for letting me know. Our klick rate over at cinemamusica.de is going really quite crazy at the moment! :-) Great so see all the interest in it.
I like the clips more with every further listen... can't wait to get the whole 77 minutes (!!) album.

    All best and keep enjoying.:-)
  10. Just listened to those clips again and I was right. It sounds like a larger-scaled version of The Debt.

For a Bond score. And general for what's already out in 2012, an electronica-dominated year in film scores.

As electronica cues, it was boring, themeless underscores. I really hope that the whole album will be better, but, right now, disappointment is the word.

I hope it's not another The Debt. That was boring, for the most part. I didn't mind it in the movie, but I didn't care for it when it was on album.

30 second clips of all tracks are now up online at the German Amazon site.

Hmm. I'm not convinced yet. And I miss the maintheme. Indeed, is it featured at all? Sure, you can hear a snippet in Breadcrumbs, but I'm hoping that won't be the only reference.
