Such a gentle and poignant score, really lovely and perfect for this time of night.

This album has just arrived with Bambi. biggrin

NP: American Beauty - Thomas Newman

Weird, somehow surreal, and pleasant in odd way. I can't imagine any other score could work. This score really fits the atmosphere of the movie (or rather, the music is the atmosphere...)

NP: Public Enemies - Elliot Goldenthal

    First listen...

Restrained (at times), dense, atmospheric, tragic, powerful... that's the sense I get from it! Not one of his greatest but Goldenthal creates a fairly original work that separates itself for the sound of other gangster film scores. "Billy's Arrest" and "Plane To Chicago" are the highlights where Goldenthal lets loose and stretches his wings. Thick orchestral layers, driving rhythms; very dramatic stuff! With it's short running time I can see myself return to this often in the next few weeks. I've always enjoyed Goldenthal's sound and I really like what he did here. Welcome back!!!

    -Erik-

I've only heard it in the movie, but the opening bank robbery cue is very interesting. Sadly I don't think it's on the album. cool

    ELLIOT GOLDENTHAL - public enemies

Traits from Road to Perdition, Shore's The Yards, Zimmer's THE THIN RED LINE, all dressed with the Goldenthal grandness i SO miss from the film music of today; restrained but dramatic and passionate with a sweeping main theme, i think i am in score-heaven!
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.

LA STORIA VERA DELLA SIGNORA DALLE CAMELIE - ENNIO MORRICONE

My first listen. A very melodic, touching score by the Maestro with some waltzes. The mood of the score is rather melancholic, though. It will definitely won't cheer you up but when you want to listen to some great classical-flavoured melodies in the usual Morricone standard quality, then it's highly recommended.
  2. James Horner - Titanic

Those horrible synths and synth choirs can only grow in my dust bin wink
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.
  4. I actually hate the synths too, but then again the action music rivals some of Horner's best writing in career.

NP: Public Enemies - Elliot Goldenthal

Lovely, haunting piano and strings and well used synth pads. Plane To Chicago and Gold Coast Restaurant are my favourites so far.

But HORRIBLY produced album! Only 15 minutes of score, that too interrupted by songs? slant
I hope they release an expanded or something later, this release isn't satisfactory.

Someone always has a comment everytime this comes up on NP rolleyes

Take away the Enya and the synths and the Celine Dion and you are still left with one hell of a meaty score.

Baby, Secret of the Lost Legend (Jerry Goldsmith)

    It's Jerry the magic man...

The playful theme is just so adorable, but the meatier cues are the true highlights.
I bought this after it went sold out so I paid a little more for it... Worth it though!!!

Now I finally got this album, filled with Beautiful sound, beautiful sound... smile

NP: Bambi - Frank Churchill & Ed Plumb

What a beautiful score written for the most beautiful Disney film! Really poetic, beautiful mickey-mousing... I'm not saying "mickey-mousing" as an insult. Bambi shows mickey-mousing can be poetic. Every sounds not only fits the movements of characters and nature on the screen, but also represents them.

The songs are beautiful too. Even though they are not as famous as other catchy Disney songs, I believe this "narrative" way of using songs influenced many of recent Disney movies, consciously or not.

And... the three-note "Man" theme is the most effective villain theme I've ever heard. da-da-da, da-da-da... Man was in the forest. But we can't see him at all. Scary. Yes, even Jaws sounds cuter compared to this beasts! (because his theme has one less note...? wink )
