  1. Not buying the 'JD Dies' connection to THIN RED LINE. I hear it's roots more in the unused Coda cue from HEAT that became the coda cue from MICHAEL COLLINS.

Well, when it comes to the particular score that The Thin Red Line is, it's for the better smile

Black Hawk Down influence is not bad, Gladiator's is much worse. That's my humple opinion.

There's also his african scores, the friggin **** ***g and his pirates' scores.
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.

It's rather obvious to my ears, even the rhythmic elements are all there. Same goes for Shore's YARDS, which is also rather TTRL influenced.

NP : QUANTUM OF SOLACE - David Arnold

Possibly my favourite Arnold Bond score!?

It's fecking cool, but Tomorrow Never Dies will always remain my favourite Arnold-Bond score (and as much as I appreciate the older Barry scores, it's also my favourite Bond score... the playcount is evidence enough for that).

Backseat Driver has had hundreds of plays from me, one of the best full throtle action tracks ever. The rest of the score has it's moments with a big tip of the hat to the Guv'nor, without the Barry injection it would be just another anonymous action score.

NP : THE COTTON CLUB - John Barry & Various

Great album with old jazz standards re-recorded to sound like they were recorded yesterday ( Mood Indigo, Ill Wind, Minnie The Moocher etc ). Only two score pieces from John Barry and damn excellent they are too ( and people complain about a 'mere' 16 minutes of Goldenthal rolleyes ), I'd hope that one day a deluxe edition of Barry's excellent score gets a full release.

    I agree completely

And love all the moments with a big tip of the hat to the Guv'nor.

I find I prefer Barry when someone else, like Arnold, is replicating his style.

But now I need to start running as a certain Bristolian has probably already got a hit out on me...

It's a fantastic Bond song, a true classic right up there with Goldfinger, Diamonds Are Forever, You Only Live Twice and The Spy Who Loved Me.

And George's 'voodoo' music is cooking cool

  3. Hans Zimmer - The Last Samurai

Revisiting an old friend. What a good score. Zimmer in his restrained mode with the album REALLY being Algren's journey.

Arguably the best superhero score out there, with THE best superhero theme.

    Vertical Limit James Newton Howard

When it comes to scoring geological features such as mountains and volcanoes, JNH is the man. I've always thought his theme from Dante's Peak was PERFECT for volcanoes! It's weird how it fits, but it does. (I think JNH was a geologist in his previous life.)

  5. Howard Shore - Doubt

I watched the movie today and the score works very well. Slightly Celtic (Irishmen in the school and with the name Brendan FLYNN, I guess Phillip Seymour Hoffman plays one) with subtle choral writing. Reminds of LotR a bit at times (third track). Not the best work of his career or even most emotionally compelling, but not a really BAD one.

You managed to watch it? I fell :sheep: after the 20 minute mark. A priest might have sexually harassed a little naive boy. Some old austere nun suspects him. He might have sexually harassed him; he might not; he might have done it actually, the nun suspects and researches with other rusty old hacks. He might have not done it afterwards but we are not sure...Zz.
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.
  6. I think that's the great idea behind it. It's not about is he guilty or not. It's about the interpersonal relations. More than the suspicions, the more interesting and important are the REASONS behind the suspicions.
