Without a doubt my favourite score -new and old alike- released this year!

Granted, it's a style I'm familiar and very comfortable with already, so it's got a head start on most other scores... but it's still a wonderful little score.

Like someone said earlier a lot of the Hornerisms we have grown to love and hate seem to have their genesis in Natty Gann score.

hehe funny, you're playing Grand Canyon

I'm playing THE GREAT DEBATERS -- James Newton Howard
    waaaaaahhhhhhhh!!! Where's my nut? arrrghhhhhhh
  2. NP: "Suite" from Inside The Actor's Studio - Angelo Badalamenti

I came across this 9-minute symphonic gem earlier today - and it's really quite an emotional piece. There's some information and an audio clip over at CD Baby.

I recommend you check it out.

  3. James Horner - Apollo 13

Great score, amazing orchestration and above all Horner shows to be an intelligent composer, which is not very often.

Mate, 16 minutes of score IS horrible editing.

But that's not the point. I was disagreeing with it being a badly produced album - I don't believe it is because the songs and score work as a whole. It just (apparently) doesn't give a good presentation of the score.

I'd agree with this. If PE is a horrible album, it's only from the perspective of someone only interested in hearing score. The albums of COLLATERAL and MIAMI VICE would have also been horrible by this measure.

Yes. This score IS Horner's Pandora's Box which he returned to borrow from many times afterwards.
    Brilliant stuff! I looooove it!

Haha, my god, this is more than a reminder. Now is when I regret listening the music before watching the film. This deserved a good laughter in the cinema. Elliott, Elliott, Elliott...you too?

I am afraid that during the trials of 300, he might have hanged out with Tyler Bates too much!

I like this score but it makes me feel strange... pleasant but sad and mad... dizzy I don't know how to say but it is certainly an weird feel. (And the movie too.) Love it.

I don't think anyone would argue about how influential Zimmer has been on modern film music, it's whether it's for the better that divides people.

  6. Well, when it comes to the particular score that The Thin Red Line is, it's for the better smile

Black Hawk Down influence is not bad, Gladiator's is much worse. That's my humple opinion.

Zimmer was probably influenced by Peter Gabriel's The Last Temptation of Christ.
