Saw IRON MAN the other day. Is it just me or if it weren't for Downey's awesome performance and the spectacular CGI effects then this film would have blown big time. What an absolutely ludicrous plot and extremely slow and dull pace. Oh ya... the score is God awful!

So without the main character the story would suck? biggrin
I know what you mean, but during the slow parts Downey was perfect. I hope he stays clean, he is doing awesome right now! And the score was piss poor.

I disliked the last third of the movie. It was like a Transformer movie with the TWO Iron Men fighting. And Jeff Bridges was sooo weird in this role!

You know what I mean. Honestly, I didn't like the character but I liked Downey's performance.

It was a real strange role for Bridges. Bald with a beard, crazy stuff. He did a good job, just so different from everything else he does.

I dislike the ending fight scene as well. I do love when he goes to the Middle East and takes on the tank and jets.

Oh oh... I just rented the bluray to watch it tonight. We'll see then. Maybe I should waatch it earlier if it is THAT slow. If Downey is good that should make up for it.

Saw the happening a couple of days ago. Quite intense! I have mixed feelings though. I need another viewing when I'm in the mood to watch people knock themselves off again. haha

    What did you guys think?

I'm currently watching The World Is Not Enough. This is the first Bond film I've watched in two years, other than Casino Royale (which I've watched about a billion times and it's arguably one of, if not my favourite film). It's finally hit me how cheesy a lot of these films are. I think having something like CR now puts all the others into context. Films like TWINE and DAD didn't seem silly at the time, but they don't stand a chance in todays world.

The Brosnan films films started great but got worse every outing. DAD is the second to worst Bond, just above Moonraker. There are elements to TND that I love. The scene where he is drinking alone in his hotel room and such.

Moonraker isn't great by any stretch but at least it's fun enough to get repeat viewings ( from me at least ), I'll never watch DAD again.

Goldeneye was easily the best of the Brosnan films, just a shame about the very un-Bond'ish score. slant

For me Moonraker is way too corny. Jaws gets a girlfriend with Braces? The Encounters of the Third Kind bit? Shameful. Personally, Roger Moore is my least favorite Bond. He is furtherst from the novels, and all of his films were the most hokey and corny. Like dressing up like a clown in Octopussy.

The Goldeneye is terrible. The Tomorrow Never Dies score is my personal favorite.

I agree that TND is the best of the Brosnan scores.

I have a soft spot for Moore's Bond films, I agree with eveything you said about them but for me they are great fun and so watchable.

Connery is by far the best Bond, he had everything, sexual allure, dangerous yet sophisticated and more charisma than every other Bond actor combined and then some.

I didn't thin the CGI are spectacularthey are Ok. Im still sorprised this movie has reached the 300 milion dollar mark.

The words "slow" and "dull" can't be better to define this movie. A great dissapointment after the good reviews and the box office.

Give me The new Hulk movie, wich is far more interesant and spectacular.

To me Edward Noton was perfect as the Hulk... he is pretty much perfect in everything
I preferred it over Iron Man myself. PLus the score is a heck of a lot better too.

What did you think of Downey Jr.?

Is it and action film or thriller?
Is this a big plus on Shia's record?

I think it's meant to be a thriller but fails miserably and instead is a GREAT action film.
  1. I've heard that Shia is amazing in his part. He got very good reviews.

    Neverwas (2005)
Starring Aaron Eckhart, Ian McKellen, William Hurt
Recently graduated psychatrist Zach Riley (Eckhart) seeks employment in a rundown, smalltown psychiatric hospital. It soon becomes apparent that he has a hidden agenda as his late father had been sequestered there for depression decades before, before becoming a famous writer of the children's fiction cycle of Neverwas, basing the main character on his son... before committing suicide.
And now an old patient (McKellen) accosts Zach, insisting on Zach's help to reclaim his throne...you see: he's the king of Neverwas...

A lovely, warm and quite clever film that is VERY hard to peg. It's not a drama, not a fantasy, not a comedy, not a family film, not a psychological film...but it has a bit of all of those.

The acting is unanimously wonderful with great bit parts by William Hurt and Jessica Lange, and an absolutely shining performance from McKellen.
Philip Glass' score is w...it's g...it's not... I...
I didn't hate Glass' score much.

    The Swimming Pool (2003)
    Starring Charlotte Rampling
Mildly interesting but ultimately unsatisfying film about a British Writer (Rampling, who is STILL a knock-out!) with writer's block trying to reew her inspiration in her editor's French outhouse. But peace is shattered when her editor's 18-year old daughter Julie unexpectedly visits.

There's sex, rivalry, mayhem and worse when the two characters clash and ultimately bond, but the motivations and backgrounds remain too unclear, and the script really can't sustain the ambivalence without a final massive shrug of indifference from its audience.

The photography is quite beautiful and the pacing languid, but the director's monomanic fascination with Ludivine Sagnier's (Julie) -admittedly lovely- breasts becomes rather annoying after the first sixty or so shots.

Philippe Rombi provides a by-the-numbers romantic score. Not bad, very fitting, nothing special.
