Of course you can argue and we can keep debating even futher on how Philip Glass is or isn't a great musician and an extraordinary composer and that wouldn't change a thing, would it? wink

These days I've been watching the anime series Kyo Kara Maou online. I'm up to episode 28 with several more to go. So far I have to say I haven't enjoyed any anime so much since Fullmetal Alchemist. It is a very, very funny series, with the allure of a fluffy episodic development, but before you know it, they pull on certain strings and you realize that there was actually a deep convoluted plot they'd been laying the grounds for all along! Truly well-crafted for any anime fan, but especially if you like shounen-ai. Eheh.

On the other hand, the series is badly spotted. They obviously commissioned the composer to write a bunch library cues (which is not unusual for anime) but then the crew didn't do a very good job of plugging these cues in certain scenes that didn't match the mood or timing. This isn't the first time I see this problem in modern anime. I hope it doesn't become a trend... Then again, other shows such as Naruto are superbly spotted. Not to mention the music being excellent by itself.

After a long break from movies and scores I saw...

OSS 117: Cairo, Nest of Spies
A French spoof on the original OSS 117 series of the 1950-1960s. It's a bit like James Bond but crank up the silliness quotient way high. And a lot of politically/culturally insensitive stuff. The initial half was a bit boring but it shaped up pretty well towards the end. A hip score!

    The Swimming Pool (2003)
    Starring Charlotte Rampling
Mildly interesting but ultimately unsatisfying film about a British Writer (Rampling, who is STILL a knock-out!) with writer's block trying to reew her inspiration in her editor's French outhouse. But peace is shattered when her editor's 18-year old daughter Julie unexpectedly visits.

There's sex, rivalry, mayhem and worse when the two characters clash and ultimately bond, but the motivations and backgrounds remain too unclear, and the script really can't sustain the ambivalence without a final massive shrug of indifference from its audience.

The photography is quite beautiful and the pacing languid, but the director's monomanic fascination with Ludivine Sagnier's (Julie) -admittedly lovely- breasts becomes rather annoying after the first sixty or so shots.

Philippe Rombi provides a by-the-numbers romantic score. Not bad, very fitting, nothing special.

I agree with your assessment. The film is overrated. It may have atmosphere, but that only holds up so well in the face of a story that goes far enough to feel like it needed to go further.

Just got Indy 4 on DVD. Watching it now, saw it twice in theaters, and was disappointed then. I'm a completest though, and it is worth owning. Maybe it will grow on me... slant

Has it come out anywhere besides the US yet? Are overseas release dates for dvd and blue ray very different?

I personally LOVED both of those films so I have high expectations for Eagle Eye. Like D said, I've also read a lot of good reviews.

Well I love Enemy of the State (actually I love everything Tony Scott directs), and I enjoyed Cellular, so I´m looking forward to Eagle Eye too; but Jordi´s review is so harsh that I wonder how is it.

Is enemy of the state the one with will smith or harrison ford?

Edit: will smith be the answer. the fugitive is the harrison ford one - another GREAT movie (although not related to this discussion!)

I was mostly talking through my hat to be snarky. I've only seen the first of those three very recently and was actually very pleased! Just what I'd expect of a Bruckheimer ride. There was even a scene that featured the square right in front of my house!

That weekend I rented a slew of movies, and, completely accidentally, the first three I watched turned out to have Jon Voigt in them!! Enemy of the State, Runaway Train and Heat!!! By the time we saw his name in the credit, my friend and I just refused to believe the coincidence. It's like he was stalking us. Honestly I'd prefer if his daughter stalked me.

It is worth own the 2 disc set for the wonderful behind the scenes featurettes and a few previously unreleased music cues heard WITHOUT sound effects in the pre-viz portion of the disc. You get about 2 minutes or so of the Warehouse Escape and The Jungle Chase Part I.

    The movie itself still stinks.

    Nooo...Definetly no.

I loved Enemy of States (One of the best films by Scott and another great performance from Smith) and I enjoyed Cellular (an unpretensious mix of 24 and Final Destination)

Eagle Eye is an stupid movie, You never can be involved with the characters or the situations. All has a sense of unplausibility that every movie needs ( I mean even Sci Fiction movies has some sense of plausibility to make it work)

(a man desintegrated for a electric Light?? we are in the ward of the worlds??? And What about one of the most hilarious chases wich involves a crane a train and a car rolleyes )

Yes but....What do you think about the 2 major action set pieces : the opening wharehouse and Jungle chase??? ( I can see you have to like the motorcicle chase...Like everyone does wink )

Do you not like all the stuff in Perú and in the city of Gold (The maya Pyramids and the Obelisc) ? I find it great stuff. A more traditiional stuff, using only CGI to make impressive landscapes.

Do you not like the sequence of the Snake Pit or the Indy-Marion discussion in the track?
