    NP: Blue Sun - Mark Isham

    A straight-forward but lovely, warm, smooth and chilled out jazz album which alludes to Miles Davis more than a few times (intentionally, I would guess - given the title of one of the tracks). Isham's a great trumpet player and an extremely listenable musical identity and this is proving to be a great listen before I eventually climb into bed.

    Love this album, and any classical music album performed by the LSO is guaranteed quality. Love the subtle woodwinds pulsating in "Jupiter, Bringer of Jolity" and that addictive brass motif present throughout track (and the overall orchestration is superb). I think the best way to experience it, bar the CD album, is having it performed by an flexible and talented orchestra live in a symphony hall.

    I was lucky enough to experience it live once with none other than Andre Previn conducting the LSO. I can't remember the whole program but he also did Vaughan Williams The Wasps Overture.....what a great night. cool

    Live is the best way to go. I've heard it performed by the San Diego Symphony complemented with brass from San Diego State and it was marvelous, far better than any recording I might have.

    Thinking on this I must have gone to this concert in the late 70's when Previn was still the LSO's principal conducter. I seem to remember it was a night of music celebrating British composers, I just wish I could remember the rest of the line up.

    NP: TALK - COLLECTOR'S EDITION (Yes)

    The more streamlined 90's progpop-sound. I like it, especially Trevor Rabin's minor-mode chord progressions and el guitar stuff (that also pop up frequently in his film scores).

    No, I think I'll find a film score in my collection. I'm not sure I get around to it before I go to Turkey on Sunday, but I'll see what I can do.
