    NP : SYMPHONY # 3 in C Minor - Sergei Prokofiev



    This is pokey stuff! Adapted from his ( never performed ) opera 'The Fiery Angel', I don't think I've ever given this the attention it deserves.

    A collection of French classical music from great composers such as Faure, Satie, Debussy & Ravel, lots of popular melodies here and I must say it's a very satisfying Sunday listen cool

    Some are very hard hitting and even very dark ( the 4th and 6th ) but also have some of the sublime moments of beauty found in 'Lark' and Fantasia On A Theme by Thomas Tallis ( just check out the gorgeous 5th ) and of course, even the 7th based on his film score to Scott of The Antarctic.

    NP: Metropolis... Michael Daugherty. This is my first listen. It is active in the percussion area. The work is divided into 5 sections. Lex, Krypton, Mxyzptlk, Oh Lois, and Red Cape Tango.

    NP: Seed - Afro Celt Sound System

    These guys are good - an impressive world music/electronica/trance blend which is rather pleasant. Definitely not one for you uilleann pipe haters. I've heard they're good live.

    One of the very best bands I've ever seen....and I've seen a lot, one helluva lot! Live, they blow away anything you've heard on their well polished albums.

    Lee, did I ever recommend to you the album 'Forwards' by The Egg?

    I think you'd love it.

    ...and also a fantastic live band that sound very different from their studio recordings.

    HERE's a tiny taster D, stay with it, it get's better as it get's going though it's not indicative of their overall sound as the band is incredibly ecclective in style.

    I'm on my second listen and this is quite a complex work!!! I can positively say that all of you would enjoy the fifth movement "Red Cape Tango" as it is based on the theme Dies irae and then a series of different styles of the theme. As far as the rest is concerned I need to keep listening.

    Thanks for the link Tim. They are surely interesting but those tribal drums' improvisations go on forever; i am more into trip-hop thingies (lamb, massive attack, etc) or drum n bass (not the heavy repetitive kind of dance/clubby drum n bass though) and of course prodigy!

    Perhaps. Though the only reason I'm able to enjoy the chaotic and odd nature of Goldethal's Batman scores are because they are exactly that; scores. Easy to follow, thematically-driven musical narratives with a primary and memorable main theme.

    "Red Cape Tango" is highly melodic using the Dies irae theme with multiple tempos and instrumentation, but the other 4 aren't. There are subtle melodies but nothing that ties any of the movements together. There are certainly some interesting ideas and well worth the going price of $7 for a Naxos CD.
