CALLING ALL DAWNS - CHRISTOPHER TIN
I've listened to it twice today. It's THAT brilliant! To support the composer to continue exploring his incredible talent, I've ordered three albums of this which I've just received in the mail. One I simply have to give to Thomas!
My first encounter with world music and it tastes great!
Thanks to Matt again for making me aware of this incredibly uplifting musical gem.
Glad you're enjoying it!!I love you all. Never change. Well, unless you want to! -

Holst The Planets for two pianos. Something to be heard. There are a few here who will consider this arrangement to be superior to the orchestral version.

I haven't heard that Tom and to be honest, I don't believe it would interest me much.On Friday I ate a lot of dust and appeared orange near the end of the day ~ Bregt -

A bit of a rash statement from me there Tom, maybe more accurately would be that it's not something I would return to after a listen. On Friday I ate a lot of dust and appeared orange near the end of the day ~ Bregt -

NP: "HERE'S WHAT I'M HERE FOR" - THE JOHN WILLIAMS BAND PLAYS THE MUSIC OF HAROLD ARLEN
Long and cumbersome title, but this is a 1957 album, with good ol' Johnny playing piano on some famous Arlen songs.I am extremely serious. -

A good sense of melody with bright, transparent orchestrations. His busier writing is reminiscent John Adams but strikes me as generally more tonal. Very accessible stuff.
His site at www.edwardgregson.com has a variety of samples, and there are some good recordings on the Chandos label:

IPOTESI, a world premiere work for clarinet and piano by MORRICONE. Not something of interest to many on this board but I found his take quite a different departure. Piano is played by Gabriele Rota and Rocco Parisi plays the clarinet.

NP : 1960's POP COMPILATION - Various Artists
A compilation that a friend made for me, there are a few usual suspects with great tracks from The Who, The Beatles, The Doors, Gerry and The Pacemakers, The Move etc but also some fantastic childhood favourites of mine that were more obscure ( and in some cases nearly forgotten ) by the likes of Love Affair, Barry Ryan, Cupid's Inspiration, this is wonderful stuff! On Friday I ate a lot of dust and appeared orange near the end of the day ~ Bregt -

CHORAL AND ORCHESTRAL WORKS - WOJCIECH KILAR
I love this for both Angelus and Exodus, two brilliant pieces that clock in at 23+ minutes each, pieces he wrote during the 70s and 80s. Angelus is based on a minimalist structure featuring a female soprano and is quite emotional. Exodus also has a repetitive backbone building in intensity, and the mindblowing climax of Exodus, with incredible orchestral and choral power is the highlight of this album for me. Keeping in mind when the music was composed, this is a great taste of things to come, because we would later hear this particular style in his now famous film scoring. Also included something that sounds like a demo for the future Bram Stoker's Dracula and it's simply wonderful. If you like epic and powerful Kilar, this album comes highly recommended. Again thanks to Tim, because I simply wouldn't have known this exists.

everything, from operas to the new classical music (more atonal and demanding) to the known works, in fact there are very few he actually dislikes. He's more like: if I don't like it, it means I have to pay more attention the next timewaaaaaahhhhhhhh!!! Where's my nut? arrrghhhhhhh
