Indeed. Whatever mood you're in, when it comes to good old downtempo electronica, you can never go wrong.

But what are you doing up at this ungodly hour??? If I'm not mistaken, it's a weekday! Not that I give a flying fuck, of course.

NP: SIMPLE THINGS - ZERO 7

Anyone who frequents this thread has probably noticed that I've played this album rather a lot recently. Like I mentioned in the excellent World Travellers thread, I'm planning a trip away somewhere soon and listening to this record continues to remind me of distant exotic lands so it's oh-so encouraging and at the same time so comforting and evocative to indulge in. But even on the face of it, it's a fucking fantastic album - one of my ultimate favourites from the last decade.

Until a few weeks ago I had never physically met anybody who had even heard of Zero 7. One of my duties as bartender at the place I work is to take control of the music that plays in the restaurant and I subsequently try to find tunes which function well in that environment. This album is always at hand. Anyway, the head chef of the restaurant happened to walk past the bar area a few weeks ago when I had just arrived for my shift. He stopped when he heard the first few seconds of the album and came up to me to ask: "This is Zero 7 isn't it?". I have to say, this guy is usually a complete cunt but I was so impressed that he was a fan of Zero 7, since he's the first I've met!

    cool

    NP: FORWARDS - THE EGG

One of the numerous albums in my collection which has been purchased on a recommendation from Tim. We're definitely on the same wavelength mate. Superb stuff.

(Though I am almost certainly going to bed once this has finished. Emphasis on almost.)

    cool

Still awake. Fuck, tomorrow (today, technically - good job it's a day off) is a complete right off.

NP: SOLID AIR - JOHN MARTYN

An album which screams for you to reach for the nearest cigar and glass of brandy. (The Benson & Hedges and left over wine will have to do).

    cool

You're not still up are you? wink

    Brilliant playlist there punk cool

I was still up late because...

    1. I didn't drink enough rolleyes

    2. My sleeping pattern is messed up from suffering flu. ( I'm still not 100% but I'm feeling better by the day )

p.s. I'd never heard of Zero 7 until my girl Mel bought the album, but it's me who's ended up playing it most. biggrin

I'm following up with a review of his Hungarian Sketches which is also included on the new Naxos release. It is so nice to see Rozsa get the recognition for his classical material that he deserves. It is all first class.

I found the traffic on my blog from FSM to be extremely high with the two Rozsa classical reviews I did on the new Naxos release. I've got to at least give a gold star to their board this time around. I'll be curious to see if Craig has any sales as a result. I'm not judging but the traffic from this board is very low perhaps just a couple that visited my home page. I'm quite excited I found something people are truly interested in at least at FSM.

It's not so strange, perhaps, since FSM is quite Golden Age-heavy compared to other boards. Rozsa also seems to be a huge favourite there.
    I am extremely serious.

NP : ENGULFED CATHEDRAL - Claude Debussy

This piece is orchestrated by Leopold Stowkowski, only 9 minutes long but such an awsome work.

Over the last couple of days it has been 360 to 4. And that is just FSM. I'm happy that I am finding a place where there is some interest. That is 90-1 difference.

I'm glad for you Tom, as Thor pointed out FSM is quite Golden Age orientated, same goes for threads about classical music, over at FSM recent threads about Vaughan Williams and Shostakovitch got multiples of replies and those threads still return from time to time, threads like that here at this board will only get minimal interest, that's just the way it is.

  1. Here, more Golden Age scores don't even get that much interest let alone purely classical pieces.

If it's a score done in the last 5-10 years by someone like Zimmer, Horner or (increasingly) Desplat then that would ensure the most interest.

Agreed. If you remember my golden scores was a dismal failure. Now that I'm a little more well known perhaps there would be an interest?

Rozsa: Rhapsody for Cello and Orchestra, op. 3. This was his first published work in 1929 and you can already hear his sound. Absolutely wonderful.

  2. I would disagree that your Golden Scores was a "dismal failure". It may not have been as successful as you would have hoped, but the interest turned out to be insufficient for the site to thrive.

I think you'd be better off putting this query on the other NP thread, here, we actually play film composers non film score music ( besides everything else under the sun wink ) but here there's only a limited amount of people from the board who participate.
