Exactly, that's what you get when Tom posts something totally out of the blue. You get such wonderfully funny moments. cheesy

Rammstein, love the song 'Hallellujah'. punk Don't know too much else though.

I'd like to know more about this one Tom, I've only heard it once and that was a very long time ago, I don't remember it at all.

    NP: AMERICANS - JOHN BARRY

    This is superb stuff!

    cool

    It that a concert work?

Nope! A jazz album he recorded in 1976, it's bloody great!

It really is a brilliant album. Of all the music that Tim has recommended to me over the past few years (and there's been a lot), this is some of the finest. Although it's an undoubtedly upbeat album, listening to it now is a rather poignant experience since it was obviously such a personal record to him.

It's fantastic jazz... with an unmistakable Barry touch. What could be fucking better?

The highlight for me is the opening track Yesternight Suite - 18 minutes of absolute bliss (which features a brief but lovely inclusion of the song As Time Goes By).

cool punk beer < I'm actually raising a glass to the man. What a legend.

Tchaikovsky Symphony No. 3 'Polish' The only symphony of the 6 he wrote in a major key. There is nothing polish about this at all.

  2. I listened to some Easdale clips the other day and found that it wasn't my cup of tea at all. Though in my browsing I did come across some original tracks from Allan Gray's score to A Matter of Life and Death that I enjoyed (though the first track does have the narration from the film that's not evident from the clip.)

  3. JEWEL IN THE SUN - DIANE ARKENSTONE

Ex-wife of new age icon David Arkenstone, she's not half bad at producing her own instrumental albums, consisting of new age and world music influences. She also sings on her albums but she won't win any vocal awards. Her singing fits in rather well with the tunes though which can become addictive. If you want to know how addictive, search for 'Beyond Borders' from this album. It has a insanely cool vibe to it.

Take a listen to this track for example. The album is very soothing, yet also rhythmic and melodic and for that reason I like it.

That's got that ascending/decending piano motif which is really catchy, where was that clip Alan?

I'll look forward to your reviews for both of them. I'll need a few more listens to the Easdale, it's not instantly digestable music but I really enjoyed it, one to get your hearing teeth into for sure.

    Hah! biggrin
I'm relieved to read I'm not the only one who immediately jumped on this release, leaving slightly disappointedly again when I realised A Matter of Life and Death wasn't by Easdale at all.

The only version I have found (and bought) of any of that film's soundtrack is on a compilation CD The Red Shoes: Music from the films of Michael Powell & Emeric Pressburger, taken directly from the film's soundtracks and -while cleaned up a bit (it's a work of love by the Powell & Pressburger fan club)- of course still timeworn and full of dialogue and sound effects.

    Sadly. sad

That piano loop is one of the very few melodies I truly find deserving of the epithet "haunting".

NP : DAPHNIS ET CHLOE - Maurice Ravel

An awesome AWESOME work, the greatest fantasy score never written to a film IMO.

Ray Harryhausen had plans to make an animated feature set to this music that would have involved no actors at all, a Satyr that he made for this unrealised project was modified and became the Ymir in 20 Million Miles To Earth and was modified again to become the Cyclops in The 7th Voyage of Sinbad. No waste for Ray on his tight budgets.

    SOUNDGARDEN - LOUDER THAN LOVE

One of my favourite bands from the ninetees. Love their unique sound, the unrelenting guitar riffs, the singer's wailing voice.

I actually got this early album of them last year after being a huge fan of their later work such as Superunknown and Down on the Upside from the last decade. This is okay in a raw basic garage rock kind of way. But I still prefer their much more polished subsequent albums. Here's hoping they bring out some new material soon. punk
