    I haven't seen Earth Days so I have no idea weather or not this type of score... subdued and non-intrusive was the way to go for the film. Land of the Lost was a roller-coaster ride where I felt Giacchino really just let loose and had some fun! Not the greatest album in the world but not terrible. Lost Season 5 was uninspired for sure.

    Now, if that's all he worked on in 2009 I would definitely call it one of Giacchino's weakest years but Up and Star Trek all most completely cancels out the weaker efforts. And Up is easily one of the years finest scores and probably headed for an Academy Award nomination. I don't think Tyler has written a Top 10 score in many, many, many years.

    I never compared the too; By Tyler Syndrome, i imply a possible tiring, recycling of ideas and lack of inspiration due to heavy workload and / or other matters.

    I agree that the Lost sound is starting to really tire. Those gentle piano chords and heartfelt cello solos... soli... whatever. I wouldn't mind it if that sort of stuff died with Lost at the end of this season. But you can't say the man has lost inspiration when he pulled off something as incredible as Up.

    Don't take me wrong, but do you have any idea how many of those excuses avid Brian Tyler fans (for instance) have packed and ready in order to try and justify the recycling and lack of inspiration during the last couple of years or so? Giacchino is easily one of the most inspired and gifted young composers working out there (if not THE most), i don't want to have to come up with excuses for him AS WELL, i want to be thrilled and excited with his music, if you understand me. I could easily replace what you wrote for EARTH DAYS with a counter-argument as "no, it's in the same uninspired league with what JNH has done in his drone scores in the past" and the 2nd one with "no, it's a real, unorganized mess. Giacchino had fun in the MEDAL OF HONOR scores, whilst land of the lost is unlistenable" etc etc wink

    Good lord... Giacchino has an off year... according to you... and you go into panic mode. Demetris, calm the fuck down. Look at the man's output over the years. Actually, look at the output of all film composers... even the greats... and you will see that they tend to have a few off years. Michael, again according to you, had had ONE off year since 1997. ONE! Look out, the world is coming to an end!

    I'm sure it would. Earth Days, Star Trek, Up, Land Of The Lost, Lost season 5, two shorts, another short and a TV show to come, and the freakin' Oscars! Give the man a break.

    Indeed. And maybe he likes to work. But I think he needs to settle down and pick two projects at the most. But he has so many friends and collaborators in the industry now it's hard for him to say no. But, it would be great if he could pass off some more projects to guys like Chad Seiter and Chris Tilton.

    I just say keep the calendar clear for Lost season 6!

    That's one project I don't want to be disappointed by. Let's face it, season five (the show) in general sucked anyway so I'm not fussed that the score wasn't that great, but regardless, season 6 is the last chance to get any remaining ideas for the show down on paper. It cannot fail!

    Its amazing how this show was one of my most anticipated fall programs to watch a few years back but now I really could care less. I hope Michael knocks it out of the park as well but if the story lines continue to be as uninspired as the previous two seasons Michael is really going to have to dig down deep and polish this turd with his music.

    Well, I beg to differ. I still think season 1 is where the show and composer were the most inspired. No season since has had me more emotionally involved. And Michael was at his best with genuine tearjerkers such as "Life and Death" and "Parting Words"

    Its amazing how this show was one of my most anticipated fall programs to watch a few years back but now I really could care less.     I always got the feeling the score was more inspired the more experimental it got. All the crazy variations of the character themes are one of the reasons I watch. Not that the emotional stuff isn't spectacular, but it's the weird and wonderful stuff that draws me in.
