    NP: EYE OF THE NEEDLE.... MIKLOS ROSZA. One of the last scores he did and while there is nothing groundbreaking it is still a good score. It offers that tension like "The Killers."

    Reading through all the posts in this thread from the first page, this is the first post that compels me to comment.

    If there was ever a score that could be described as "underrated" then this is one!

    The themes for Suzanne and Gabrielle Castella are what stands out for me from this score.

    Yeah, I like it too. The film is pretty good too, with Donald Sutherland as a murdering Nazi spy.

    John Powell - Stop Loss

    Restrained and intelligent score for a very good movie. The final scene gets the best score, but the rest just grows to it and that's very good. Recommended.

    I saw this mentioned in the acoustic guitar thread and had a look.

    I hadn't realised that there was a score version of this available. I see that it's a La-La Land Records release later this month. But it's available now as a download.

    Thanks for the info! I also see there's a 26 min. version? I only have 2 movements, totalling at 15 min... I'm missing something! Good news by the way that he recently performed parts of it again, it means the material isn't dead yet for him and he keeps it alive. Hopefully it means we might get some kind of release in the future, something like a 'classical' CD of the Le Vampire movements would be awesome. I also read on your site that it's largely been used for Mary Reilly? Seems like it is definitely worth checking out, then...

    Indeed, some very powerful themes in there, especially the main, piano-driven melancholic motif.

    I should really have tried this under "weedy hippie" conditions but I didn't have the forethought!

    Anyway, I've been keeping my options open for going into politics in later life...I want to be able to say that I've "just passively inhaled" hippy weed when I'm undoubtedly asked the "drugs question!"

    Big, bold, brassy, thematic, old school - one of my very favorite albums to come out this decade! "Epilogue" is one of the finest cues Debney has ever written.

    Big theme-driven old-school composing = BRILLIANT !!!! punk

    Small orchestra? What matters is that Thorne did some fine arrangements and wrote great additional stuff that work alongside the famous themes.

    Erik's clips overlaying this with Iron Man got me in the mood for it. My God, "Kruger Escapes" is a phenomenal Juggernaut of an action cue. Has Silvestri written anything else like this? (I remember Judge Dredd being loud, but not in the same style as this). More please!! punk cool

    The Last Castle (Jerry Goldsmith)

    The music's pretty good but I seem to have a faulty disc, so every track has an annoying background sound, like a digital version of hiss, it's only audible when the volume is high. But despite this, the album is very enjoyable if you skip the 2 sleep songs.

    At best, it sounds like the calmer parts of LOST, only lacking emotion. At worst, it's oddly boring. Oh Michael, are you getting the Brian Tyler syndrome too?
