I think she looks fine, but I understand where Martijn is coming from.

Me? I've purged myself of all morals and standards, so I'll like (and take) almost anything.

Fair enough: to each his own. smile
I guess I'm a fine one to talk anyway, what with my predilection for Nicole Kidman... spin

We both love women with a bit more meat on their bones and yet you like Nicole Kidman....strange old world innit.

    The Road (2009)

The most emotionally involving and heartwrenching movie I have seen this year. It is ruthless and beautiful at the same time. The Father-Boy relationship is deeply touching and I loved the themes the movie dealt with.
It is not a coincidence that this movie was among the best films in almost every Christian movie top-list last year.
A movie experience that I won't forget soon, I'm sure. One, that manages to cause catharsis - and that's so rare nowadays.

I wanted to watch that for so long now but i still haven't managed. I heard great comments from people who've seen it, yet i believe it went somewhat under the radar?

    The Wolfman

After all I read I had zero expectations but I've found myself enjoying this one, a pleasant surprise. Regarding the music, the one that decided to replace Elfman's score is an idiot....or an idiot. Fortunately they didn't do it. The score is what the film needed and fits the visuals perfectly.

It is not a straightly Christian-themed movie but the themes it deals with are deeply Christian and the message of the movie resonates with the Christian faith very much.
They say it is there even more in the novel but I haven't read it yet.

Check the yearly list of Christianity Today. (www.christianitytoday.com/movies) They make a list every year of the ten best film and the ten "most redeeming" movie. You will be surprised how many great movies they list.

Loved the film and the score; don't know what people bad-mouthing the movie had in mind when they went to watch it, but i found it very entertaining and atmospheric. The kick-ass score with Elfman in his best of appetites helped the end result greatly smile

Staying human in an un-human world, carrying the fire within, keeping the goodness and innocence and also, hope.
These themes are all very important in Christianity.
Anyway, watch the movie! As I said, it's not a Christian movie, but a movie that resonates with the Christian message very well.

I don't understand all the criticism it received. Good performances, strong atmosphere, great production design, (surprisingly) good direction, perfect score, classic story (as you say, I don't know what people expected: maybe Twilight 3?), overall a very good movie in all aspects.

I've heard the same thing said about Return Of The Jedi, Spartacus and Robots. smile
These are actually quite generic themes, that would resonate with anyone who has a sense of empathy. I wouldn't say these are really specifically Christian values at all (even though I'd understand why they would resonate within that particular community. Just as much as they would resonate in a Hindu community. Or a socialist one.)

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

It's the first time I've watched this all the way through in ages. And I loved it - again!

And what made it even better was the fact that David, my 11-year-old son asked to watch it!! Although it's an 18-certificate film, by today's standards, it's a film that's not got too much that would restrict it for someone David's age. And I thought that he'd be too bored with it to last the 3 hours it was on.

But credit to David - or should the credit go to Leone? - David sat through the entire film and really enjoyed it. He found the story a bit difficult to follow but he did like it. And remembered the music from his dad's mp3 player!

Martijn, you didn't watch enough of Van Helsing ( believe me, I don't blame you ) to see that they shamelessly ripped off the best lines from TGTBTU.

Prince of Persia : Sands of Time

I was pleasantly surprised by this. I didn't expect anything good from this movie but I received a fine old-fashioned adventure-fantasy. What I liked was that it was not based on special effects but rather the events and actions. It was a very fast-paced movie so I didn't feel bored.
I also liked the music in the movie. I haven't heard it outside of it, but in the movie it worked very well.

I watched it last night too and I truly liked it! I went with my dad you is a retired cinematographer and he had only good things to say. The music worked absolutely wonderful in the film and Gyllenhall was a very pleasant surprise in a role I couldn't imagine him!
