I'm not having a go Erik, but it does seem a little pointless to quote the whole thing when your reply is directly underneath! C'mon, you're just as bad when someone starts a new thread that already exists. wink

    Superb!

My flatmate actually got me interested in this one. I never paid much attention to this score or indeed Hisaishi's music until he played some. Strange, when someone else plays the music, it always sounds more interesting?

On a proper listen I find Hisaishi generally...

There's truth in that. Plus there's an element of 'you like this film music!?', it makes you listen more attentively.

    Too something.

I do like Princess Mononoke though.

Reading someone's thoughts on a forum is quite different to experiencing first hand the kind of enjoyment people get from certain pieces of music (of course, if one enjoys it a little too much, I'd rather not be in the same room).

well, I don't remember much of it since yesterday, but I've heard the entire thing, and the cue that's most notable is the fart song, so nuff said, 3 stars

That is so true! Experienced it many times myself - something sounds great when it's played to me, then I get it myself and no, not so much.

I'm not the biggest Hisaishi fan. One of those composers where if I listen to one of his albums I find myself liking it - but for some reason I would never actually think of listening to anything by him. Weird.

Anyway, I agree. And my second favourite beltrami score.

By the way, What score do you like better: The Mummy or 13th Warrior? tongue

    NP:The Mummy from The Mummy

A track that I never use to listen. Too...Dissonant? it's not a easy track to listen to me. But today I find it interesting.

The Mummy, of course. It is 3.1% better than The 13th Warrior.

NP: Season of the Witch - Atli Orvarsson

First listen impression: Meh. Dark, loaded with sound design, hellishly dissonant (in term of crap, not Goldenthal) and loud and poundingly inane for the sake of it. Take the worst and mediocre parts of Angels & Demon and previous Atli scores, dial up the volume, add dissonance and even more sound design (a la metallic screechings and groanings) and spread it out for an hour. Bleh. Granted, there are some good bits, some nice Choral passages and some nice action-y pieces but those are so little that it's hard to like the album as a whole.

Yet another failed Atli score. I'd rather listen to Henri 4 again. This score makes Henri 4 sounds like a fountain of melody and austerity.

LOL. One of the best track on the album is the last one, "Eckhart's Funeral", and it last a slight bit more than 1 minutes. It has a melody and it's not a bad one. Noble, with french horn, and reminiscent of Jerry Goldsmith. The score would have benefited so much more if had it been used more than once.

It worked great in the movie. Album wise, it has one of the best track, "Ben Takes the Stage, Dan's Burden".
