What Erik said.
There was a time when hearing a big choral score such as Krull or The Final Conflict was a treat, not the norm, it seems to be filtered everywhere now and done badly ( mostly ) to boot.

Robin Hood Marc Streitenfeld
Very generic 'heroic' theme with relatively simple action writing.... but I think I like it!? I like its non-processed "organic" sound. Some of the action, although nothing spectacular, is rather enjoyable. And I am a sucker for Celtic-y, Oirish music.
It's not bad; at least not offensively bad. There's a couple of moments; between the 2 similarly-themed scores though, this and prince of persia, i chose the later, easily.Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders. -

Repetitive but can you really get enough of that gorgeous theme? I, for one, can't
For me, that's the most genuinely emotional thing Silvestri ever wrote. It's genius how the whole film goes without a score up untill that very last act. -

Not to disagree with the sentiment as those are both great scores, but I find Silvestri's two Christmas scores to be some of the most genuinely emotional music I've ever heard. But then I have a fondness of Christmas-y music so I am biased.I love you all. Never change. Well, unless you want to! -

That and Forrest Gump. Beautiful.
Well, I've heard Forest Gump way too often, and I love the more restrained quality of Cast Away, but Gump is lovely as well. -

If you don't know Contact, give that a chance. It's also very emotional, yet restrained and exciting where it needs to be. The movie's totally sublime too."considering I've seen an enormous debate here about The Amazing Spider-Man and the ones who love it, and the ones who hate it, I feel myself obliged to say: TASTE DIFFERS, DEAL WITH IT" - Thomas G. -

Yeah, I heard Contact, but I haven't 'clicked' with it yet. Liked the film a lot when I saw it years ago, but the music doesn't have that much impact on me like Cast Away has. :-) -

I listen to it more than Forrest, but I rate them the same. I guess it's because Contact has a more varied sound, and that clicks with me.

NP: Prince of Egyp.... errr PERSIA* - Harry Gregson-Williams
Listening to this score again. Sounds much more enticing and involving than Streitenfeld's completely lackluster effort Robin Hood. The Raid on Alamut is very very nicely done, with a good statement of the theme and good action passages. Tamina Unveiled is appropriately ethnic and grand. Harry proves again that he still know how to write good thematic materials and wrap it around a very good package of orchestration and arrangements.
*I did mistakenly typed "Egypt." -

"Something Wicked This Way Comes" (Georges Delerue, rejected score -- good sounding boot)
A more lush and I guess semi romantic approach to the film than Horner, but then again Delerue did have a different cut (and some shoots) of the film.
But like Horner it does utilize darkness and females vocals. The views and opinions of Ford A. Thaxton are his own and do not necessarily reflect the ones of ANYONE else. -

Although you can hear the Zimmer roots, I think it works pretty well in the film for a Ridley Scott score. Gets you feeling the right things at the right moments.A butterfly thinks therefore I am -

It does have good moments, but really short burts of moments. The album just floats by and ends inconsequentially. -

Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory - Amon Tobin
Great sound design and sampling in this game score.
It reminds me of the heyday of jungle drum & bass, but far more melodic and varied. Excellent stuff. Off-beat, to be sure, and certainly not for everyone (he samples everything from eerie radio voices to a screwdriver scratching over piano strings). But I greatly enjoy it.'no passion nor excitement here, despite all the notes and musicians' ~ Falkirkbairn -

Chaos Theory, mate, not Conviction.
(Or does Chaos Theory have a monster marathon rip as well? Well, whatever the case, I stil wouldn't be able to listen to it. The regular release will do me just fine, thanks.

Chaos Theory is the one with the 3 hour game rip.
But I take it you are listening to the regular album. Which is a shame, as you are missing the best part of "Battery" and a brilliant Ocean's Eleven inspired track, "Stolen". -

Mmmm...if it's just those two tracks, I can add them into the regular release without too much of a drop in quality and enjoyment (I think the regular release is about 35 minutes or so?). Anything up to 50 minutes is OK with me.
Above that, generally it has to be of exceptional quality to sustain my interest.'no passion nor excitement here, despite all the notes and musicians' ~ Falkirkbairn -

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time ~ Harry Gregson - Williams
Oh my!Completly captivating! It gives you right away the feeling of the place and time you are supposed to get and it is has a very fresh sound not following the typical path of the "middle - eastern" sound in such films. Loved it!

Kull the Conqueror - Joel Goldsmith
First listen. Some rocking good cues. A very old-school sounding score + electric guitar, so that's totally all right with me. I like how Joel doesn't try to sound like his dad. He has his own style, which is apparent in this and Stargate SG-1. Sure to revisit it many times 'cause it's pure fun."considering I've seen an enormous debate here about The Amazing Spider-Man and the ones who love it, and the ones who hate it, I feel myself obliged to say: TASTE DIFFERS, DEAL WITH IT" - Thomas G. -
