Without insulting me, could someone explain to me what I'm not getting here?
The expanded release now has the complete action finale...a pretty intense 10 minutes of music there. But the rest of the unreleased cue don't really do much for me. I say there's a great 55-60 minutes album there and that's all you'd pretty much need.
Thanks for that, Erik. I can put the $35 to some other titles. The views expressed in this post are entirely my own and do not reflect the opinions of maintitles.net, or for that matter, anyone else. http://www.racksandtags.com/falkirkbairn -

So massive a score, it needs to be in big lettering. Bregt, I hereby ask you to add a 'huge' font to the layout options.
Needless to say, this is 2 discs of unrelenting orchestral and choral awesomeness.

the action finale was almost complete in the original realease, I think you mean the 12 minutes from the Vulcan Mission. Wich it's worth of every penny. How I said, 100 minutes is absurd, but there is a really good 70 minutes album. Makes a better picture of what giacchino composed. -

That Vulcan action stuff kinda came and went... but you are right about the finale... but those last two cues "Black Holes Have A Lot Of Pull" and "Back From Black" are most welcome.
BTW, I think the original album is very well assembled.

"black Holes have a lot of pull" is awesome, but "back from Back" was in the original realease.
I think the original album suffers of not enought presentation and devolopment of Nero's and Spock's theme. Now it's a strongest album in the thematic side.
How I said, 70 minutes. no way to sustain 100 minutes or more. -

Well, maybe it's the fact that those tracks are now in film order that make them much more powerful and coherent.

Ahahah. Ok Erik, But they was in the correct order in the original realease too. The only additions to the final action climax is "trekiing into narada" and "black Holes"...

Neither is the best representation of the score, but there are better versions out there. -

Yes... it is. "Stealing The Enterprise" beats the pants off of EVERYTHING Giacchino wrote! There's about 6 Trek scores that are ahead of Giacchino's effort!

Mmm...You almost convinced me Since "stealing Enterprise" is one of my favourite tracks ever! But...overall I prefer Giacchino's effort. I have to say I never liked very much the swashbucking theme that Horner composed for the saga, and Giacchino's theme ...I can't have enough of it! -

That swashbuckling theme is so appropriate for the film and Kirk's character! Giacchino's theme never really told me anything but Horner's Kirk Theme... it's all there. Daring, smart, adventurous and always one step ahead of the bad guys! However, Giacchino's theme for Spock is brilliant as is Horner's. Both composer's got it right!

Yeah, I don't say it's not appropiate. it's a personal taste. I find Giacchino's theme more "masculine"

GODS AND MONSTERS | carter burwell
Missing out a concert of Burwell (in Tenerife) is painful. This score is one of his best imo. It contains two really good melodies, one is a very gentle mostly piano driven theme that sometimes leads to a dark and twisted sound, and the other one is a recognizable Burwell theme, with a quirky edge.Kazoo -

I've never liked Giacchino's main theme for the movie. It's a very weak entry in the canon of fabulous Trek themes. -

Well, not by light years. Giacchino's version feels dark and weighty and mostly overbearing all the time, while Horner's effort just has enough variety to allow the listener to follow the journey. -
