Oh, by the way, not to get off-topic, but at the moment I am playing A Single Man by Korzeniowski and Umebayashi. It's nice.

NP: The A-Team - Alan Silvestri
It's a good listen, but very underwhelming in the end. The proto-typical Silvestri sound is all over this, which is nice to have once a year. The theme is nice, though he should have created one that could meld into and/or compliment the A-Team in some way. It is much, much better than GI Joe, though the erratic nature of some of the cues suggests that it's like a better built version of the GI Joe/Beowulf styling, and not of the classic Judge Dredd/Eraser model. -

Why do people keep mentioning GI Joe and Beowulf together, as if they have anything to do with each other stylistically??

But what he said is like saying Sherlock Holmes is a better built version of The Dark Knight. The styles have nothing to do with each other!!

It's probabaly because these are the most recent Silvestri scores that have -one way or another- made the most impression (whether good or bad) and so have become sort of a "baseline" for "current" Silvestri, I guess?'no passion nor excitement here, despite all the notes and musicians' ~ Falkirkbairn -

Um, if you were to think about it, I was referring to the overall action style, that Alan is writing in (for Beowulf & Van Helsing and G.I. Joe), characterized by electronics and orchestral hits. And then comparing it to the older orchestral-based writing style of The Mummy Returns, Judge Dredd and Eraser. You can say that the language has evolved, with a different set of accents, but the style remain the same. Action/adventure scores from Alan Silvestri seems to sound very similar to each other now, and though that's not a bad thing per se, (since it happen only once a year), I want to hear more variety.
And your Sherlock Holmes/TDK example doesn't work because the language being used isn't the same and the style is different. SH has that Matchstick Men sensibility and TDK is its own thing, even if both has certain inflection built in to it, given that they're written by the same guy. -

I understand your point about the electronics versus the full orchestra. My point is more the emotional language and coloring of the two scores as related to and influenced by the type of films they are written for. Sherlock Holmes and A-Team are action comedies, TDK and Beowulf are dark action dramas. That is why the comparison of their styles makes me uncomfortable. Besides that I agree with you.
