    NP Inception (Hans Zimmer)

As a film score, probably brilliant. As an album, zzzzzZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzz

It's not Zzzzzzzzzzzz....but It's noisy and a little bit uncoherent.

"dream within a dream" is probably my favourite track.

I prefer the Alan Parsons version.

  1. NP - How to Train Your Dragon - John Powell

First listen! This is phenomenal stuff! I've heard some complaints about the cheap sounding brass, and yeah, I can see why that would throw some, but man, with music this good, that's not much of an issue for me. "Test Flight" is spectacular! "Romantic Flight" was lovely. "Dragon's Den" sounds great. Man, there are a lot of excellent tracks so far and I'm only 2/3 of the way through.

Comes a Horseman - Michael Small

One of my favourite Intrada limited releases - I ordered it blind, knew nothing of film or score and haven't heard much by the composer, and it was such an extremely pleasant surprise. Very fine western score mixing traditional elements with more modern ones.

It's hangover time and I need something to cleanse the soul. I'm genuinely glad this is only 30 minutes though, because I don't think I could take anymore than 30 minutes of this kind of music (and I mean that in the best way possible).

This score is so good it could win a game of tick tack toe with the computer from War Games.

    Made me laugh out loud.

That it's the soundtrack equivalent of heroine.
Where a pleasurable experience softly touches your "happy neuroreceptors" with a feather, heroine scrubs it with a wire brush.

NP: Quo Vadis - Jan A.P. Kaczmarek
Soundtrack to a 2001 Polish miniseries. I remember playing this CD once when I bought it in 2002, and never again, as I was rather disappointed by it.
Revisiting it now for the first time in almost a decade, and enjoying the heck out of it! The well known eastern trademarks like ponderousness are there, as well as melancholic-as-hell wailing men and slavic choruses. And of course it's all as oppressive as anything.
But it's thoroughly melodious, powerful and beautiful.

Either my taste and prefernces have changed in the last 8 years, or I'm just thunderously depressed... wink

  5. It was also a cinematic movie.

I was very impressed you were actually disappointed by it; it's one of the most gorgeous scores in the genre, and very unique, very inspired; up to now, along with UNFAITHFUL, TOTAL ECLIPSE and EVENING, are his milestones so far.
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.

It's not crap, but it's true that this score is highly overrated thanks to the nostalgic feelings that we have and the addictive opening theme.

If ever a score seemed composed specifically to irritate Demetris, it's this one.

Oh how i agree with you on this one smile beer You're so spot-on in the above observation, it's frankly one of those scores (another would be MARS ATTACKS for instance) that make me feel actual shame for being into film music.

MARS ATTACKS is darned fine and no one need feel shame for loving such a great homage of a score.
