Akihiko Matsumoto - goemon (2009)
Shameless, bad rips of everything Zimmer has done from Gladiator (including) up to date and it made me want to punch the speakers. What a load of bs. Right click-->delete.Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders. -

All the King's Men - James Horner
Specifically, "Give Me the Hammer..." This track is really great, Braveheart rip included!

When it comes to new stuff, Inception. A very good score in my book.
Very true!

I just saw The Karate (Kung-Fu) Kid yesterday and the whole score fits like a glove (including the quieter cues from the first half of the album). No surprise there since James is the master of nailing it for any scene he scores. But yes, the score truly takes flight in the latter half of the score!
Yo..y.y.....you...you SAW The karate Kid *crap-fu*?!?!?!!
Had to take clients to see it. Enjoyed it more than I though I would actually! -

NP Hierro (Zacarías M. de la Riva)
One of my discoveries in Úbeda (I didn't even know he is from Barcelona
). Dark, atmospheric orchestral horror score. Nice main theme, while The Island theme and the Greebhouse theme are pretty good as well. The last five cues (specially due to the choral work) are specially brilliant, leaving you with a sense of resolution that makes the listening experience even better than it was until then. Certainly looking forward to de la Riva's new projects.Anything with an orchestra or with a choir....at some point will reach you -

Quite Philip Glass-esque, the piano pieces. Very interesting release once again.Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders. -

NP:Inception (Zimmer)
If you remove "mombasa" from the playlist the listening experience improve a lot.
the last 2 minutes from "old soulds" reminds me the Zimmer of Black Rain. With an string progression and the electronics making a cool rythm.
I noticed that what Irritates me if the "night at the opera" copy and paste, if were not I could really love this score.
Dream is collapsing, Radical notion and Dream Within a dream are terrific pieces! -

NP : THE 7th VOYAGE OF SINBAD - Bernard Herrmann
One of the all time greatest fantasy scores and long time favourite of mine, Herrmann did AWE like no other and he didn't need a thousand piece choir to crank up and hide bad tunes.
AWESOME!On Friday I ate a lot of dust and appeared orange near the end of the day ~ Bregt -

I'm starting to like it! I love the electric guitars mixed with peacemaker and Blade runner. It creates a really fascinating mood, specially the 2 notes motif with is highly powerful, agressive and dramatic. -

NP Age of Pirates - Caribbean Tales (Yuri Poteyenko)
Now this is proper pirates music! I bought it in Úbeda because I remembered Martijn and/or Erik's comments and I couldn't be more happy. Plenty of themes, great brass - woodwind - choir writing, excellent orchestrations, definitely a good purchase. Any other recommendations of music by Poteyenko?Anything with an orchestra or with a choir....at some point will reach you -

Speaking of Braveheart rips...
Bobby Jones: Stroke of Genius - James Horner
Another underrated effort...including an interesting guest appearance of the Freedom Theme from Braveheart...
Now that I've finished the entire score, I'm even more enamored with Horner's ability to write great string music...and there's plenty of Braveheart for everyone. -

Nothing on Earth could make me love this score any less. I don't know why everyone dumps on "War" so much, but I think it's one of Horner's most heroic pieces he's ever done. It's the choir that does it for me... -

JP: INCEPTION - Hans Zimmer
First time after seeing the film, and especially the final act has gotten a much bigger impact on me now. I love the synthesizer sound of it (certainly a nod to Blade Runner, but no way can I see any copy/pasting here) and the way Zimmer distorted the orchestra creates a fine distinct sound for the film.
The Piaf song (introduced in the openingtrack; that's the eerie brass motiv!) now makes sense and I'm glad it found it's way to the album.
The only mishap still remains Mombasa, a track that seems completely out of place and is lacking any emotional resonance (unlike the dramatic epic buildup from tracks like The Dream is Collapsing).
Time, finally, is yet another Zimmer adagio that lends the film an incredibly emotional finale that might be up there with his best climaxes. -

I'm really dying to see this movie. Seriously, for the score and for the movie itself.
I'm sure I will love Zimmer score after watching the movie, But I'm a little afraid about the people who says there is to much music on it because Sherlock Holmes had the same problem and in the movie it sucked.
It's "radical notion" used in some important scene? it's re-used along the movie? I ask this because it's one of my favourites tracks.
About the vangelis thing....I only could be more happy if Hans mixed the electronics more clearly like he did in "science and religion" or "a dark knight" but perhaps he wanted to sound a little bit like an old LP. -

It's not really re-used per se, but this style of music keeps popping up throughout. Although the whole film seems to be filled with important scenes, it's more a track that pops up in in-between scenes, if you get me. But how is this your favorite track? I think it's one of those transition tracks that works in the whole, but is less interesting in its own... -

"Doctor Who Prom" - Murray Gold
Just listening to a rip I did of last night's BBC Prom concert featuring Murray Gold's music to Doctor Who. There were additional "classical" pieces, but this is just a selection of music from the TV series:
The Mad Man With A Box (Prologue)
An Untimely Arrival
I Am The Doctor
Battle In The Skies (Daleks vs Spitfires)
Amy's Theme
Liz, Lizards, Vampires and Vincent
This Is Gallifrey / Vale Decem
Pandorica Suite
Song of Freedom
Doctor Who Theme (Grainer)
Some excellent highlights - and it's now made me look forward to any forthcoming release. The views expressed in this post are entirely my own and do not reflect the opinions of maintitles.net, or for that matter, anyone else. http://www.racksandtags.com/falkirkbairn -

One of my all time favourite Zimmer scores. Yes, you read well. And It will not be a change of mind on this one.
One of the purest Zimmer score in years. it takes the masterful Da VinCi Code themes and it blends with the crazy Broken arrow effects.
And it is scored for the images! -

NP : THE MONSTER MOVIE MUSIC ALBUM - Various Artists
A darn fine ecclectic mix including music by Akira Ifukube ( a Godzilla suite ) a King Kong suite with music by Max Steiner, John Barry & John Scott, Bernard Herrmann's Mysterious Island, jerry Goldsmith's Baby : Secret of The Lost Legend, a 'stone-age' suite featuring the three film scores for Hammer composed by Mario Nascimbene and finished off with James Horner's Land Before Time/We're Back-A Dinosaur Story and David Newman's The Flintstones. On Friday I ate a lot of dust and appeared orange near the end of the day ~ Bregt -

But the last cue is AWESOME. It's so epic, so touching playing the love theme.
