  1. Inquietudes (A Sight for Sore Eyes) - Desplat

The best Desplat score that no one's ever heard, and one of the best suspense/thriller scores I've ever heard. I love the dissonant chords. "Nuit Blanche, Carre Noir" is a masterpiece.

On a side note The King's Speech has the distinction of being the 30th Desplat score I've heard. Go Speed Racer...

This is how I can say that I can't stand Goldsmith's "Planet of the apes", but it's a masterpiece nontheless. It would be arrogant for me to conclude that it's overrated simply because I personally don't like it.

Who cares if a score it's a masterpiece? Does it move you, can you connect emotionally with the music, do you enjoy it, how does it make you feel? This is all that matter. It's art and that is art supposed to do.
  2. Some people get moved by religious symbols smeared with shit. It's art.

I'll be careful what I say here - I was just going to say "Excellent!" but I don't want to offend anyone who doesn't think that! wink

In my opinion, this is excellent.*

*This in no way implies that I think those who don't find it excellent are imbeciles.

NP : RUN WILD, RUN FREE - David Whitaker

There's something about composers and Horses that brings out the very best in them, a really lovely score that sooooooooo deserves a CD release, along with his other, once promised score, Dr Jeckyll and Sister Hyde, one of the very best Hammer scores written IMO.

Couldn't agree more. How did the studios and producers / directors let such a magnificent composer go? He's still around with smaller quirky projects, but rarely anymore with such glamor, vigor and grandness in his music.
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.
  4. Blame Pixar for that. Giacchino is today's big thing and they took the bait...

Here's hoping The Debt is an end-of-the-year knockout.
  5. Road to Perdition - Newman

Still my favorite Newman score after all these years.

I don't think he ever really wanted to write scores like Meet Joe Black, though he's never said it (it's only a perception). He probably now has enough money that he doesn't need to. I do agree that it's a great pity - he's arguably the finest American orchestral film composer behind Williams, but he never does that any more.
  7. What I meant with the Pixar comment is that Nemo and WALL-E were the closest Newman ever got to scoring any big-budget, large-scale action/adventure films, which many film music fans enjoy. Otherwise, he's always been at home scoring family dramas and the occasional quirky dramedy...
