Ah, I see. That's a good version too.

In relation to the recent reissue, they've put out a number of Eric Woolfson interview bits on Youtube where he talks about each song. Don't know when the interview was conducted, but it's a bit sad, of course, knowing what was to come.
    I am extremely serious.
  2. NP: In the Plain (1969) - The Savage Rose

Probably my favourite psychedelic rock album ever.
Plinboe is Danish, right? He might know these guys.

Savage Rose isn't only famous in Denmark! I know them well, but I've always found them to be closer to folk than psychedelia. Maybe a little bit of both.
    I am extremely serious.
  3. And now while I am in the mood:

The Piper at the Gates of Dawn (1968) - Pink Floyd with Syd Barrett

    A groundbreaking album!

You're on a roll, Volker. Music after my own heart, all of them.
    I am extremely serious.
  4. "Piper at the Gates of Dawn" reminded me of a very great song I did not listen to in a long while. And so I concluded the evening with

Stairway to Heaven (1971) - Led Zeppelin

    Good night everyone!

I love Stairway To Heaven but it's too over-played/over-heard for me these days.

    NP : BBC RADIO 2

Really good show today with Blur's Damon Albarn taking over from Dermot O'Dreary ( It's really O'Leary but his taste is so bloody depressing ), a real eclectic mix that has also taken in Ennio Morricone and Tony Hatch's theme to Crossroads, guests include Ken Dodd, Harry Enfield and Idris Elba.

I have been listening to and enjoying an Irish composer Ernest Moeran who composed a wonderful serenade that is definitely bright and cheerful. It is performed by the Ulster Orchestra.

There is a genius to Kate Bush. All of her albums are uniquely brilliant, the woman is a trailblazer not a follower, a true original.

An even creepier, orchestral version of Peter Gabriel's creepy song 'INTRUDER' from his 3rd album.

    INTRUDER - PETER GABRIEL

It's sort of like the song via some Jerry Goldsmith tinkering spin

NP : CONCIERTO POR LA TERRA - Philippe Sarde

A gorgeous five movement concerto. Much more of a "classical" sound than what you might expect from a film composer.

  7. NP: Standing Stone (1997) - Pau McCartney
    London Symphony Orchestra; Lawrence Foster

I remember I was rather disapointed in this album when I got it as a present back in 1997. I didn't listen to it in ages. So now that I listen to it it's practically an all new discovery.
The music is really good if not as engaging as - say - Mike Oldfield's "Music of the Spheres". It seems to remind me of Grieg or Smetana.

Magical, spine-tingling, and, well, brilliant. It's been sitting in my 'Give This a Listen, Yo' playlist for quite some time now... I wish I had got to it sooner. shocked

NP : OEUVRES POUR CHOEUR & ORCHESTRE - Lili Boulanger

I find her music incredibly haunting, beautiful, complex and moving. She died at the tragically young age of 24, one can only wonder where her music would have developed to had she lived a long and healthy life.

Pawel, I'll sort this out for you in the next few days.

JP & NP - Mike Oldfield documentary about the making of Tubular Bells followed by a live performance.

    Quite an interesting documentary.
I had no idea he was so incredibly *young* when he wrote it!
And I had no idea of the Virgin Records connection (what fun to see a teenage Richard Branson starting his Empire!).

Wow! I thought nearly everyone knew about that connection? Tubular Bells made Richard Branson. Mike Oldfield had an indirect big hand in commercial flights into space.

Didn't Richard Branson look like the quintessential uber-geek biggrin , not only that but his music taste was really "square" with a cheesy Cliff Richard song being his very favourite cheesy

I'm sure everyone in the UK knows!
Slightly smaller impact in the rest of the world (to be honest, like so many I have lived for ages thinking Mike Oldfield was 'that guy who composed that theme for The Excorcist' shame )
