NOSTALGIA PIANO STORIES III - Joe Hisaishi

This composer music touch me so deeply, he is a genius, his music goes directly to my heart.

    Simple, melodic, full of emotions.

    Thank you Joe Hisaishi!

  1. ALIVE (EXPANDED) - JAMES NEWTON HOWARD

Judging by the unreleased cues from this recently discovered boot, I'm all for an expanded release of this thematically rich and emotional score from when the man still had a distinct sound which was both easy on the ears and extremely rewarding. I love JNH in his 90s mode, not so much in recent times.

  4. BATMAN FOREVER - ELLIOT GOLDENTHAL

I'm so going to order this... I have a new found appreciation for the dark brassy attacks on the senses that are littered throughout Batman Forever, even though the full score is one insane blend of clashing musical styles, general goofiness and typical Goldenthal signatures, I seem to have a blast listening to it anyway (which becomes too rare as years go by). I may never hear another new Goldenthal of this magnitude again, so I really have to cherish the ones from the past, like this fine release.

Never a dull moment in this one, that much is certain. cheesy

  5. I found that the more restrained and emotional pieces were particularly surprising. Far too much "goofiness" it listen to it in one sitting though.

    NP: ZOO (Marco Werba)

Since he used to be my 'client' (from celluloidtunes.net), I got all his CD's. This is his first. A bit repetitative, but the man's got talent, no doubt there. Love his melancholic melodies.
    I am extremely serious.
  6. Now playing a random shuffle on iTunes. It seems like ages since I listened to a "random shuffle".

The only explanation I can think of is someone is either paying you to say that, or you have a gun to your head? There's literally no other way to explain that.

It is weird. I know how much people like Under Fire but I just can't hear it at all. There are a few of Goldsmith's scores that are like this - Under Fire, Papillon, Islands In The Stream... - and I would say that he is one of my favourite composers.

I am very strongly driven by melody and if I don't connect with what I am hearing then I find it difficult to like a score. (That sounds a bit of an obvious statement.)

3 brilliant scores IMO. I of course respect your opinion Alan, we're all wired the same and differently at the same time, there are plenty of scores and other music tastes here at this board where I scratch my head and can't see/hear what's so special, a view which is often reflected back at my own taste at times, it would be boring if everyone agreed with each other.

Islands in The Stream I badly need to revisit. I remember not being that excited by it, but I'm sure I'll think differently of it today. Under Fire on the other hand was an instant love affair for me (first heard on Silva's Essential Goldsmith album... which is actually a pretty good recording!).

Mission Impossible IV: Ghost Protocol Michael Giacchino

I prefer this to the third one, and I like the third one a lot.

I prefer the third one because it sounds more Giacchino-y, but Ghost Protocol is a lot of loud, unashamed fun.

I guess, though Ghost Protocol sounds pretty Giaccino-y to me? I prefer for the reason you said; fun! His first score is more raw and hardcore (without trying to sound like a rap lyric there), whereas Ghost Protocol -like the film- is much more fun and stylised. I love the unashamedly stereotypical music for geographical locations.

This is terrific! It's the music for the latest Cirque de Soleil show. Some tracks are spectacular, like the coolish Patterns, Movie Studio with its almost overwhelming array of colours and sounds and the great finale track at the end.

I thought the stereotypical music was too much, but there is some brilliant action music in this.
  10. John Williams - Memoirs of a Geisha

One of my personal Williams favourites. Great restrained score with some big emotional outbursts. The theme isn't huge and romantic, but still beautiful. Becoming a Geisha and the End Credits are definite highlights, as is Confluence.

The third one is amazing a full-on powerhouse ride. The fourth is weak IMO and the jazzy horny renditions are something I don't like at all.

Considering I didn't think much of Tintin on my first listen, I can't judge you. But this is such a fun score! (When you edit it down a bit and particularly when you hear it in the movie.)

No idea what kind of porn music you've heard though! dizzy
