Nope, you broke it tongue (as did I five minutes earlier - watch your quote tags) but someone fixed it.

Low blow! But I forgive you.

Anyway, like I've said many times before I can now MAKE MY OWN SHORTER ALBUM, which I've done for many albums that I actual purchased myself. And if I didn't have the special edition I wouldn't have those fantastic bonus cues to add to the mix.

    -Erik-

But those fantastic cues should be on the regular release!

I see your point about it allowing an analysis of the complete score. For anyone doing an academic assessment of the work, that would be invaluable. But most of us want to just listen to good music! To produce a good album from 2hrs+ of source material means you have to become intimately familiar with those 2hrs+. You don't even just have to select which cues to put on there - you have to decide which cues to edit, which cues to combine, etc. I guess if all I did in my free time for the next month, I could take a shot at doing that (assuming I had the right software). But I'd much rather the album producer did it for me.

Of course, the best possible album could be the complete score and sometimes is. With the case of The Hobbit, it isn't. Potentially there could be an album in there that's as good as the original LOTR releases (I suspect not, but you never know).

But that's YOUR opinion (and mine as well) But what about the people who adore all of the music and love this particular presentation. You want to deny them music to fit your preferences. How is that fair?

Sure there is! And it's not that hard to produce.

It's as fair as Peter Jackson's film having parts that will appeal to some people more than others, or McDonald's changing the amount of sauce on a Big Mac which will make some people happy and some people less happy. Surely the album producer should aim to please as many people as possible.

Did they do that? Yesterday I ate a McRib sandwich with more sauce on it than I had in years. Sometimes they water the sauce down. vomit

Hard to assemble that without the special edition but I'd definitely miss Brass Buttons in there (some of the best action material). On the other hand, it's really long and only portions of it are great. This is why it can be frustrating when they combine cues like this.

    Journey - Austin Wintory

Was delighted to see this get a completely unexpected but very well-deserved Grammy nomination. I still think it's the finest music I've ever heard for a video game.

But I think for scores such as Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back (listening to the latter at the moment), the quality here can take an expanded presentation.

I really like that selection Erik! I think I'll go with that for neat single CD. But I'll also include "Old Friends" despite it being a very close rehash to The Shire music from Fellowship.

  7. Brian Tyler - Bangkok Dangerous

This score features one of my favourite Tyler themes and some nice action music. Has always been one of my favourites by the composer and it's largely forgotten. Same year as my favourite Eagle Eye, I guess that says something.

  8. I always kinda liked Bangkok Dangerous and I liked Eagle Eye. Here's the thing. There is a great thing about Eagle Eye that seems missing from his most recent output and it's Tyler's knack for avant-garde, those Goldenthalesque licks is what to me makes the score and works very well in the movie.

I also much prefer Expendables 2 to the first score in the series, especially after watching the movie, which, also kinda to my own surprise, I actually liked. Expendables 2 is what I think is a move in the right direction. I very much enjoyed Far Cry 3, which was a shocker to me and the only thing that puts me off Terra Nova is the length of the material. That's why I am asking about a sampler
