NP: Mission: Impossible - Danny Elfman

Excellent score. Both in and out of the movie. And if you love the movie as I do, the score is perfect.

I really like this one. Full of light kinetic energy.

My list of Top 5 personal favorite Elfman scores, would contain this.

Elfman's Mission: Impossible is marvelous. Both film and score are the best out of the series!

NP: Waterworld - James Newton Howard

An action/adventure/swashbuckling masterpiece. Thank you, Cristian, for the inspiration! I love how this score just keep propelling foreword. The "galloping" rhythms keeps your toe tapping the whole way through. "Skyboat," "Slide For Life" and "Helen Frees the Mariner" are wicked action cues with a lot of colour and heroics! And cues like "Swimming" are some of the most inspirational pieces Howard has ever written! Brilliant!

    Coogan's Bluff - Lalo Schifrin

An enjoyable, eclectic score, mixing everything from the western-style main theme to jazz funk and dynamite orchestral action/suspense. Excellent release by Intrada.

To anyone who's listened to Cloud Atlas enough to be familiar with the main theme (not the Sextet melody, the other one), go listen to "The Horse Stampede" from "Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter"...

I don't believe the two scores actually had any influence on each other, but it's a funny coincidence...
I love you all. Never change. Well, unless you want to!

Gods, this is even worse than the standard release. I like the cues added at the end but stuff like "Blunt the Knives" is completely extraneous and the extended "The White Council" makes an already meandering track even worse. Going to try Erik's playlist next...

No, but your show proves among other things that you have a good sense of pacing. Your Hobbit cut is definitely miles above the full release. It cuts out a good chunk of the slower-moving tracks and inserts those four new tracks in ideal places. It's made this score very listenable.

    So thank you. wink

This isn't just my favourite "action" score by JNH -- it's my favourite score by him, period. And -- even more importantly -- currently at my 10th place among my alltime Top 10 favourite scores!!

And after that last track Desplat looses me. DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUL! And the electronic Desplatian pulse underneath it all is like having a migraine headache! You can't escape from it! sleep Things do get a bit more interested when the action kicks in and I hope that the latter half picks up the pace significantly.

We'll see. You're definitely more experienced than I am in terms of putting together playlists and suites, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's a good one. I'm sure you've thought about the balance between action, calm music, suspense, magic while at the same time creating a musical narrative that builds, ebbs and flows. Or is it just your favourite tracks put together in a chronological order?

I listened to both albums (far too many times then they deserved), highlighted my favorite tracks, kept most of the same order as both albums but snuck in the bonus tracks (because they are the best tracks) and added them in to help with the pacing. I didn't just throw this together. I made a solid album out of what I had and what I felt would work.
