I am listening to Danny Elfman's "Spider-Man 2". Erik mentioned it as beeing even better than the first one which promted me to buye it. (I only had the first one in my collection.)
I have reached track No 4 now and for what I have heard so far, buying this score wasn't a bad idea at all.Bach's music is vibrant and inspired. -

The Postman - James Newton Howard
Waterworld little brother. More soft and quite music here, but not boring, always interesting. I think it helps for the moments when action music kicks in with full choir. And what a great theme, it gives me chills every time I hear it.
Great post apocalyptic score this and Waterworld gives me high hopes for After Earth. -

Not a bad score but what a truly dire film, what was he thinking? On Friday I ate a lot of dust and appeared orange near the end of the day ~ Bregt -

Inception Hans Zimmer
According to my girlfriend, 'Dream Is Collapsing' sounds like something from a Resident Evil score. Anyone know which one that might be? I know next to nothing about Resident Evil. -

I think I'm one of the few people in this world who actually enjoyed THE POSTMAN.I am extremely serious. -

Jeff Danna's score is the only one I know. There's some in-the-face elements like Inception in there too, that's right! Here's a cool track from that score (not a very good quality).Kazoo -

NP: The Hobbit - Howard Shore
First listen, only disc 1 for now. Only on the first track. I don't care how meandering it is, I'm just glad to be listening to a new Middle Earth score for the first time in 9 years!
to Howard Shore and his wonderful sonic palette for these films.I love you all. Never change. Well, unless you want to! -

Especially since Shore wasn't really 'doing his job' as record producer in the first place. I'd take a 'best of' playlist by "amateur" Erik Woods any day!I am extremely serious. -

Loving that first track. Fuck you, Desplat. I'm supposed to HATE everything you write!
-Erik-
And after that last track Desplat looses me. DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUL! And the electronic Desplatian pulse underneath it all is like having a migraine headache! You can't escape from it!
Things do get a bit more interested when the action kicks in and I hope that the latter half picks up the pace significantly.

Sounds to me you were pre-determined not to like it, perhaps?
It's not Rise of the Guardians, the film's got a very grim tone it seems. The music fits wonderfully, i am sure.Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders. -

Bollocks. My mind was open and clear the moment I started the album. Like I said, I loved the opening cue. More of that would have been nice.

You don't say.

And gritty means don't do too much or the film won't be serious enough. What is that? A melody? Kill it! KILL IT WITH FIRE!!!! More drone and duduk! And we've hired the London Symphony Orchestra... let's barely use them.

I'm not understanding all the criticism about this score. Then again, I liked the LotR Complete albums too. This seems to be just as engaging. Sure, there are some more ambient cues, but even they are far more brain-pleasing to me than the ambient cues of most other modern film scores.I love you all. Never change. Well, of course! Everything is better than the modern electronic crap we get passed around as scores these days, but i guess Shore set the bar way too high to really reach or pass it, after LOTR. If you forget all the lotr material and the original releases' / movies' greatness, and see Hobbit on its own, it's quite good.Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders. -

I was never expecting it to be as "epic" and motif-ly complex as LotR because the story is much simpler and more childish so there is a lot less for Shore to work with.I love you all. Never change. Well, unless you want to! -

And it's a build up to the LothR scores that "will follow" this trilogy. Shore is holding back on purpose so that everything will make sense in retrospect.Bach's music is vibrant and inspired. -

But even with the "holding back", the action music and even, to a lesser extent, the suspense material is quite engaging and harmonically rich...perhaps even more so than the similar material in LotR, in some cases.I love you all. Never change. Well, unless you want to! -

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz.... I'M AWAKE, I'M AWAKE! There's some real highlights here (like "Flight to Compound" and "Preparation for Attack") but these good cues are surrounded by material that it feels like anyone could write. Just toss in a bass drone, add some occasional ethnic touches and voila! Take tracks 1, 2, 7, 8, and 9 and you have a decent suite. Everything else can take a hike. -
