The Goldsmith score is amazing, I own the Varese CD Club copy of it. I have to see the movie, because I want to review it!
Hans Zimmer - The Peacemaker
The recording session bootleg that came about years ago. After hearing it I both gained a lot of respect to what I regarded as an average Hans Zimmer action score, even if better than the cult classic Drop Zone (whcih I regard to be the most overrated one of the lot). The complete and chronological program of the bootleg shows what is one of the smartest scores the composer ever did structurally. The way the multiple themes are used is quite unheard of in Hans Zimmer's career. And this is where Gladiator began, sometimes Peacemaker is actually more complex.
The original release does no justice at all to the whole concept of this work, which is far more meticulous than many people may want to think Zimmer can do.http://www.filmmusic.pl - Polish Film Music Review Website -

This is a score very close to my heard, i passed some of my puberty with it

Pity that Hans didn't get back to the complexity except bits of Prince of Egypt and Gladiator. If he developed this sound, he could have really gone places, also technically. Yes, there was help from Gavin Greenaway, but except one track, I can't tell (I don't know, that is) how much.
The score features one Hans Zimmer must-have and it proves actually how bad the official release is. There is the vocal theme, present on the original album only twice, about a third part of the score is based on that beautiful Balkan-tingled elegy. Still one of the best themes he wrote and in its most dramatic form (luckily available on the official album at the end of the Sarajevo track), it's just purely mesmerizing.
Tomorrow I'll feature here a score nobody probably expected from me. I managed to listen to only the first CD, but because it's very late now and I learnt to go to sleep way earlier than I used to, I will listen to the whole program, including the concert suite, tomorrow. The first CD was lovely.http://www.filmmusic.pl - Polish Film Music Review Website -

I actually overplayed my CD, it doesn't work anymore  The official release is all noise and no substance, what on the 55-minute program is 80% noise (though for Zimmer's standards, trust me, very well structured noise and I will spark some controversy, I think the structure of Peacemaker is better than Brian Tyler's, I'll expand on this view when I'll get back to Battle: LA), on the complete release is about 50-50 with very much place for breath.http://www.filmmusic.pl - Polish Film Music Review Website -

Have you also tried this? Somewhere after the 1:00 mark. It's a hug, and a Christmas one, too:

i don't think that it's such a complex score, to my ears it's the style he perfected in Gladiator, exactly that; nowhere else to go from there and this is why i believe he turned to other styles after that; he went onto the pirates - holmes sound afterwards and then inceptionisms and of course Nolan. Let's see what the future holds, i believe the next re-invention - which will mark the next trend, is very possibly what he'll do with the new superman.Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders. -

Yeah, it had the more touching side and exactly the chord procession and style he turned into Gladiator. It was The Rock / Crimson tide + a bit of melancholy, more melodic + more drama = Gladiator. To me, Gladiator and TTRL are the ultimate Zimmer scores. Perfect.Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders. -

NP: BIG FISH (Danny Elfman/various)
One of the best Elfman scores in the 2000's for what is probably Tim Burton's most sober and realistic film. Love the Eddie Vedder ballad "Man of the Hour" too.I am extremely serious. -

ZERO X THEME
One of my all time favourite Marches from the pen of the incredible talent that was BARRY GRAY
It's one of those uplifting pieces that never fails to give me a warm inner glow and a smile.

Listened to Desplats "Rise of the Guardians / Hüter des Lichts" again. What a fun score! I like every minute of that album.
Then I delved into "Thundercats" by Kevin Kliesch.
So great music! A hybrid of "LothR" and "Star Wars" indeed.
To the trained ear it is obvious, that a sampled, not a real orchestra is playing. Still the sound is impressive, the method a great alternative when the budget is small.
But I am a little worried that producers might like the idea of replacing real musicians by samples. The financial advanteges are obvious - and samples don't get organized in unions.Bach's music is vibrant and inspired. -

I used the Zero X theme as score for a video I shot of large crane like vehicles that are used for transporting big storage containers at a sea side dock in New Zealand. Watching them live I knew I had to put Barry Gray music to the scene!
Kevin Kliesch certainly did a top notch job with Thundercats.
Impressive sampling that often sounds close to a real orchestra.
A fun soundtrack that I enjoy more and more each time I play it.

Mychael Danna's score for Life of Pi was absolutely enchanting. The opening cue (I think it's called "Pi's Lullaby") is especially lovely. A definite Best Score contender. -

I think that's probably because Rahman wrote actual Indian music and Newman and Danna write North American approximations of it! -

In much the same way, I prefer James Horner's approximations of Scottish music than legitimate Scottish music such as "Donald, Where's Your Trousers?" (with apologies to Alan because he probably listens to that at least once a day). -

skyfall (Newman)
I really like this score's sound. More than I liked the film.
Cheers before bregt for the mention on cosmopolis. Bar a certain rerecording that has been my surprise most-listened to score album of the year. Again it was a delight to meet you and Thomas a week ago.

Speaking of Skyfall, I need help putting together a playlist. I need to know the exact order that the cues played in the film, including the Adele song (I do that for a lot of Newman's scores, especially with the Mendes films).
Pretty much everything after "Granborough Road" on the album plays exactly as it does in the film, but before that it's all mixed up. Anyone know? -
