    I may have to correct you and point out that you might be wrong there. However, since I did not put the album together, we could be both wrong and neither of us would be correct.

    Ah, I see. I believe that FSM user First Breath has stated that the only thing finer than Saturday Night Fever was an album featuring a pigeon sitting on a Casio keyboard for an hour (for contractual reasons the pigeon didn't actually receive the credit for the music, which went instead to Hans Zimmer).

    It's the new expanded release from La-La Land. I don't like it very much though. Don't know what all the fuss is about. Doesn't even contain a score track by Vangelis. Odd! I'm sure it's remastered to some extent.

    MAN OF STEEL DEMOS | hans zimmer and marc streitenfeld

    Rather uninteresting. It contains a theme that is very similar to Beyond Rangoon, which for some reason seems like an interesting choice but doesn't impress in the variation with 16 cello's presented here. Streitenfelds contribution comes unexpected and is littered with quotes from earlier HGW scores. What is surprising though is that John Williams' trademark nervous action music from the last 10 years is present in this score too. Lois theme sounds like it could turn into a song for Justin Bieber.

    How on earth did the demos come to be available already?? slant
    If this is even real, it sounds like it will be a great score, in its full form. I've never heard a "demos" bootleg that sounded anything like the real thing in terms of sound design.

    I think it's brilliant stuff, which, if I'm totally honest, surprised me.
    I was set for yet another growling, athematic soundscape mess like the Batman flicks , but I'm thoroughly relieved they went down a "lighter" path, both musically and in mood.

    I *did* like the references to Williams' landmark score! Wholly unexpected (especially as both Zimmer and the director so clearly stated wanting to go in another direction!). I think it's subtle and tastefully done, and will win the hearts of many score enthusiasts.

    NP: Girl Rising - Lorne Balfe

    This is actually a really pretty little score. I don't mind that its synth. Some of Hans' best scores were mostly synth. This reminds me of An Everlasting Piece...maybe not quite as refined as that one and the ethnic touches are of different ethnicities but it's definitely worth at least one listen and for me, a lot more than one.

    NP: The Film Music of Erich Wolfgang Korngold - Erich Wolfgang Korngold
    conducted by Lionel Newman

    This is a remaster of a 1961 recording featuring very short suites from King's Row, Anthony Adverse, The Private Lives of Elizabeth and Essex, The Sea Hawk, The Prince and the Pauper, The Constant Nymph and The Adventures of Robin Hood.

    The was the first ever authorized recording of Korngold's work by the Korngold Estate and was recorded under the supervision of Erich's son, George. This album was re-released by DCC Compact Disc and was brilliant remastered by Steven Hoffman, who also worked on dozens of other DCC released including the 1995 expanded release of Raiders of the Lost Ark.

    The sound on this album is pretty darn good for a '61 recording, the selections are expertly performed and wonderfully conducted. I never tire of listen to Korngold's music.

    NP : VARIOUS THEMES COMPILATION


    loads of stuff, mostly more obscure tracks than the usual suspects, stuff like the themes to Monsignor, Catch Me if You Can, Dutchman, The White Buffalo, Hammett, The Chairman, The Satan Bug etc etc

    One theme, Ernest Gold's CROSS OF IRON is so good I just had to replay it cool

    Heh. I'm doing much the same thing: playing my 'Unplayed Playlist' (which is basically all the tracks on my iPod I've listened to only once or not at all), in hopes I'll discover a track that will draw me into a score I've neglected for too long.

    ....but rather than that I find myself much more fascinated by these individual tracks (and the curiosity of which one will pop up next!) than by any full score...dizzy

    NP: Congo - Jerry Goldsmith

    First listen to Intrada's expanded release. I've always loved "The Spirit of Africa." The 10 minute plus finale has been a personal favourite for many years! I thought the action writing in this score was under appreciated by most including the previously unreleased "Meet Monroe Kelly" which is finally available to enjoy away from the picture.

    Here's hoping this new presentation makes for a much more exciting and interesting listen, which the original release as a whole was not.
