  1. I know on good authority that Balfe is actually not working on the score (or at least saying he's not).

Balfe has been the right-hand man for too long, its time for him to go completely solo and for Zimmer to get new apprentices...these guys have been around for 5+ years now. Its the way of Zimmer to be getting new guys right about now tongue
I love you all. Never change. Well, unless you want to!

I had completely forgotten it was April Fool's when I read the Man of Steel demos prank and now I am forever going to be disappointed that I don't get to here a Beyond Rangoon-ish theme with 16 cellos combined with Williams-ish action music. Bregt should go to work for Hanzi cause that's a brilliant idea and sounds strangely perfect for a modern Superman film.

I didn't even get it when I read that the score has been rejected in the other thread...it took me until I read "rejected by Henry Jackman" (which makes no sense at all) to remember what day it was... crazy

  3. Ian Fleming's James Bond 007

With the mail today arrived John Barry's

    Goldfinger
    Diamonds are Forever and
    You Only Live Twice

Now, much has been said about how these 2003 remasters leave much to be desired. That goes for the presentation of the music as well as for the liner notes.

Yet, the sound is great overall. I most cases it's easy to find a reliable chronological running order on the web. At any rate, I did not find such a list for You only live Twice. There are 7 bonus tracks!

    Help, not just anybody,
Help, you know I need someone, help.

NP: BLOOD IN BLOOD OUT (Bill Conti)

I love this score -- it's like UNDER FIRE's less artsy brother.
    I am extremely serious.

The 7 bonus tracks on YOLT would have to be broken down into individual cues. I'm sure someone at the FSM board has already done this? It may be worth your while asking the question there.

  4. Fond something helpful on the FSM board! Good advice!
    V.

For everyone interested: Without doing any editing I now made the following playlist for You Only Live Twice:

    1. Capsule in Space
    2. You only Live Twice - Title Song
    3. James Bond in Japan
    4. Aki, Tiger and Osato
    5. Tanaka's World
    6. A Drop in the Ocean
    7. Fight at Kobe Dock - Helga
    8. Little Nellie
    9. Soviet Capsule
    10. Sprctre and Village
    11. The Death of Aki
    12. The Wedding
    13. Mountains and Sunsets
    14. James Bond - Ninja
    15. James Bond - Astronaut?
    16. Countdown for Blofeld
    17. Bond Averts World War Three
    18. Twice is the only Way to Live
    19. You Only Live Twice - End Titles
Bach's music is vibrant and inspired.
  5. Hans Zimmer - The Last Samurai

Revising my thesis chapter. This music really helps. I love how peaceful most of it is, like Hans took a lot of Far Eastern culture in.

Just listening to it myself! Contrary to popular choices, my favourite tracks are Waters of Irrawaddy and Our Ways Will Part. I am not very happy with Village under Siege, because the sampled sound is quite dodgy.

    It's a sublimely beautiful score.

Now then, Georges Delerue doing a Biblical epic, now THAT I would loved to have heard.

Really, really good! One of Silvestri's most under appreciated action scores that features two of Silvestri's finest cues - "The Cradle Of Life" and "Pandora's Box."

Oh wait... yes, "Arrival In China" could have been ripped right out of Beyond Rangoon.

The electronics, for the most part, are pure Alan Silvestri. There's no mistaking that.

This was detailed in an issues of FSM magazine. I used it to create my own playlist, breaking up all the suites. I'll see if I can find it.

  12. Thanks Timmer,

I believe you have it right here: http://www.johnbarry.org.uk/expanded.php

But I think I am quite happy with the "approximative playlist" ^ wink .

So don't bother, but thank you anyway!

  13. That's exactly what I used to cut the tracks up. Makes for an excellent listen IMO. And it "frees up" some excellent tracks that are buried in the longer cues.

    Journey - Austin Wintory

There are a lot of wonderful moments in this. But at the same time, I'm struggling to connect to a large chunk of it (the big climatic cue aside). I bet it works beautifully in context but outside of it, it's just a little too subtle for my tastes.

Biggest, most overrated snoozefest i've heard last year.
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.
  14. Has anyone seen the recent adaptation of Kate Mosse's book Labyrinth? Because if the show is anything like Trevor Jones' score then it is must be quite a tedious watch.

Jones' score seems to be 90% boring underscore with the tempo rising only in a few places: funnily enough, one of these places seems to be the music for the climax of the first instalment!

my brother showed me the game and I greatly admired the score during it. However, I wonder if I would have loved it as much IF I heard it first outside the game

Wonderful game as well. Highly original!
