I saw the film a couple of nights ago and enjoyed the score in context with the images on screen.
So I did what I often do and ripped the CD but placed the tracks in chronological order which (once again) I find to be an even better listening experience.
There are quite a few cues I have really taken to. I really like Mako. A nice piece.
And yeah, I can hear Ifukube in the monster attack cues. -

NP: Alex Cross - John Debney
It's a remarkable score only by virtue of being the most electronic-heavy score in John Debney's repertoire, so far. It's extremely functional, if both effective and unobtrusive in the movie. It's a very modern sounding score, and the synth library at work is very much more advanced in every way, more than anything Alan Silvestri has to offer, which makes me sad a bit.
Hummm. How to properly express myself. Ah, heck, I'll let another member do it for me:

Yeah, it's definitely not for everyone, but it's not a terrible waste of time, like most Tyler Bates scores for me. -

NP: 2 Guns - Clinton Shorter
I don't know if I really like this score. It's a textural score, which is a plus, built around repeated bass grooves and string guitar riffs (akin to someone layering a bunch of Michael Brooks guitar lines at various intervals), simple string lines, with southwestern/Latin flavor on top. And toss in a few drum&bass for the action cues. Some of it is similar to the "Hijack" track from Zimmer's M:I2 score, for an easy comparison. It's the kind of underscore that's perfect for playing while you're at the office. It blends into the background and add interest to the proceeding, and is happy percolating in the overall soundscape. No recognizable melodies, just motifs, grooves and cyclical string guitars. I won't mind listening to it again, but I wouldn't crave hearing it. -

Europa Report- Bear McCreary
Beautiful. Haunting. That piano piece alone will go into a McCreary compilation and the rest of the underscore is no slouch, even if the throbbing electronic suspense cues can ramble on on occasion. His theme is wonderful and the string writing is top-notch. Hoping this guy really breaks into film work soon (although his television work is certainly nothing to sneeze at). -

I agree but superior quality still hasn't broken the toweringly superior talent of Lee Holdridge into films has it.

NP: Condorman (1981) - Henry Mancini
I am not the biggest of fans of Mancini's easy listening style. Yet i enjoy this fun score a lot. That I have a soft spot for the film adds to the fun.

PS: Does anyone know a CD featuring the original recording of Mancini's theme from Remington Steele ?Bach's music is vibrant and inspired. -

It must be available somewhere? I have it on a fan-made compilation ( Thor has the same one ) so it was definitely recorded from some album.

Not the original score but the suite recorded by Charles Gerhardt. I know he was capable of other styles. Great music!
I have two other CDs by Mancini: A compilation featuring excerpts from "Pink Panther", "Breakfast at Tiffany's"; "Charade" and "Hatari!". I also have the score from "The Thornbirds".Bach's music is vibrant and inspired. -
