NP: The Twelve Choruses (2014) - Miklós Rózsa
Westminster Cathedral Chamber Choir conducted by Allan Wilson; Geroge Castle: Organ
I have owned and loved this suite for many years on the Prometheus label: MR Film Music, Vol. 1. The promise to experience this music in superior sound made me obtain this new album. And indeed the Prometheus album pales in comparison to the Intrada one. Still the Prometheus album also features original music from The Power. (Allegedly unauthorized, but that may go for US laws only.) That will keep that CD in my collection.
This new Intrada release features as a bonus a choral version of psalm 23, which is also a treat.

NP: Game of Thrones - Season 4 (2014) - Ramin Djawadi
The fourth CD, the third label, the third spine design. Somehow such things bother me. CDs for me are an equivalent of books and I like CDs that form a series, to look alike. It even bothered me when Sony changed its CD design and the spine of SW Episode III looked different than those of Episode I and II. Or the "Harry Potter" CDs that are from a multitude of labels.
This is more ambient than the third one but I can't say I like it any less for it.
Stragely one Word keeps wandering through my mind when I listen to any "Game"-album, that's "DUNE". Some cues seem to remind me of the ambient parts of the Toto score (Desert Theme / Paul Takes the Water of Live) some of the score composed by Graeme Revell. It's my quirk to make such comparisons.

NP: TIM'S VERMEER (Conrad Pope)
Elements of minimalism and it's not as "John Williams" as his previous MY WEEKEND WITH MARILYN, but it's excellent nonetheless. A deserved documentary winner of the IFMCA awards last year.I am extremely serious. -

Maybe a little disturbingly, I completely understand you and agree with you.
NP: Lionheart - Jerry Goldsmith
I love this score: chockfull of themes and marvellous orchestration.
The synths never bothered me (very few of Jerrry's synths do, with the very notable exception of the 'cat yowl'synths in Gremlins, which I hate with a passion), but I was surprised to hear how synth-driven this score actually is! In my memory -and it's been quite a few years since I last heard this score- it was so much less!'no passion nor excitement here, despite all the notes and musicians' ~ Falkirkbairn -

That sound is what make GREMILNS and Jerry's music as a whole sooooooo much fun to listen to. The "cat yowls," IMO, was a stroke of genius!

A horrible track to listen to. HORRIBLE!

Talking about synth scores:
NP: Assault On Precinct 13 - John Carpenter
Yeah, it's monothematic...but WHAT a theme! Damn!
There's nothing much innovative about Carpenter's scores (I think at one point he admitted scoring several of his movies himself simply to save money), but nonetheless I find most of them very listenable, very enjoyable and in some cases -like this one- even iconic!'no passion nor excitement here, despite all the notes and musicians' ~ Falkirkbairn -

The List of Adrian Messenger - Jerry Goldsmith
Leans heavily on its lone tango like theme but it's a masterful one and no chore to sit through countless, creative variations. Then there's the fox hunt cue, a standalone that's just as brilliant as I remembered from seeing the film years ago. A real treat to finally have this masterwork on CD. -

What an utterly hilarious piece of music. By rights it's awful, but dear god, I can't get this stupid grin off my face. I guess that means I like it...? I think?
