    I loved it, played it 3 times in a row today. It's bold and thematic, what's not to like in there? Orchestral and choral, loved it.

  3. It's not up to scratch with the first one, and it is a lot more modern in style, and some of the orchestral and choral parts sound sampled and/or overdubbed in places. That said, it's still a massive, entertaining score and by a long shot the best I've heard this year so far (barring that Two Steps piece, "That's a Wrap"). "The Toy Maker" and "Satan" are two absolutely gargantuan action cues, excellent stuff. punk

    Edit: But my goodness, the comments section seems happy about it. 99% of them seem to be Indian!

    Exactly. I am surprised with people that don't like this...it's as good as it gets today imo, and a complete listening experience on album, which is a bit rarer these days when scores have 1-2 good cues and the rest is drone.

    I liked it. I'd have to listen to it again to confirm but I'm sure one track had Morricone's The Ecstasy of Gold as a template?

    He's a legendary Bollywood composer. However, I'm surprised they omitted Rahman in favour of him. Rahman may not be as insanely prolific, but he is a much better composer and with a far higher profile -- both inside and outside India. He's not called the "Mozart of Madras" for nothing.

    NP: THE CROODS (Alan Silvestri)

    The best score from him in years, although there's a little too much mickey-mousing going on. Unlike most others, I wasn't that impressed with COSMOS; this is closer to the ol' Silvestri that I love.

    Essentially I've taken the loudest, noisiest tracks and made it into a 60 minute playlist. The key to making a good playlist is to ask yourself 'Would Thor like this?' If the answer is no, you're on the right track.
  22. Finally finished The Winter Soldier. You know, the last five minutes or so of the final track aren't half bad. If you took that, "Project Insight", "The Smithsonian" and "Taking a Stand", maybe "End of the Line" as well, you'd have ten minutes of music that's not awful.

    Then again, when the best thing you can say about a score to a $170m blockbuster is that ten minutes of it aren't awful...well, you know how the rest goes. rolleyes

    Last year, Jackman did a score where he took over from Silvestri. That was awful. He did a score about a captain. That was awful too. Why the hell would anyone let him combine the two???

    I really dig the original promo presentation of GODZILLA. Fantastic album. I bought 2CD expansion too, but quickly sold if afterwards. After which I had to re-acquire the promo. rolleyes

    Yeah, that was my first thought. To keep the tracks from the promo and re-arrange it in that order before I sold off the 2CD set, but apparently the tracks are different.

    NP : THE FILM MUSIC OF - Clifton Parker



    Fantastic, full blooded film music.

    One piece I always loved is Western Approaches, at one time it was one of a very limited few pieces of Parker's music available. The version I had conducted by Stanley Black.

  27. NP: Les Miserables (1998) - Basil Poledouris

    The four suites actually play like a symphony. A great score. Let's not talk about the terrible credits.

  28. NP: Captain America: The First Avenger (2011) - Alan Silvestri

    This is a solid orchestral score with a great main theme. Nothing special but solid and never boring. I was disappointed two years ago but the score has grown on me somewhat since.

    The ONLY good thing about it is the theme, IMO. Overall, I actually think the Jackman score is stronger, even though it doesn't have a memorable theme like Silvestri's.
