    El A-Teamo Alano Silvestrio

Precisely the sort of undemanding, noisy score I'm in the mood for these days.

    Remember the Alano.

p.s. "Flying a Tank" - punk punk punk

Mr Peabody and Sherman - D Elfman

Precisely the sort of thing I'm not in the mood for. But it's almost finished now, thankfully. I suppose I could have turned it off and listened to something else instead, but that seemed like too much effort.

NP: THAT AWKWARD MOMENT (David Torn)

I like the synthpop songs over the actual score, but it's not bad.
    I am extremely serious.

NP: A POET IN NEW YORK (Debbie Wiseman)

First impressions are pretty good for this 2014 effort -- lofty, warm music. A bit repetitive and skimpy at times, but I think there's something here. Must be because piano is my favourite instrument.
    I am extremely serious.
  2. A new Wiseman score! Good news. smile

Well, I hear it's better than:
    "Gamer"
    "28 Days"
    "American Outlaws"
    "Battleship"
    "Below"
    "Pulse"
    "Shooter"
    "Red Dawn" (Ramin Noodles)
    "The Bible" (Zimmer/Balfe/Balmer/Zimlfe)
    "Broken Arrow"
    "The Devil’s Rejects"
    "Ender’s Game"
    "Parkland"
    "Man of Steel"
    "G.I. Joe: Retaliation"
    "Gears of War: Judgment"
The views and opinions of Ford A. Thaxton are his own and do not necessarily reflect the ones of ANYONE else.
  4. NP: The Borgias (Delerue)

The theme for Cesare and Lucrezia is a beauty. The fanfare stuff isn't really my thing, but for that theme, I'd play just about anything.

Did you know that with the modern marvels of computing, you only have to play the exact things you want to hear?

    ....sorry shame
I love you all. Never change. Well, unless you want to!
  5. Resisting the urge for matching sarcasm, what you say is true, but editing within tracks is something I only occasionally do.

NP: Grand Budapest Hotel (Alexandre Desplat)

Saw the film tonight. Lovely work.

  6. Rio 2 - John Powell

Probably his least interesting score to an animated movie yet. A pretty big disappointment considering how much I've been looking forward to Powell's return. "Battle for the Heart of the Forest" is an excellent action cue but the rest fails to ignite. Hm. slant
  7. NP: Hour of the Gun / Red Pony Suite - Jerry Goldsmith
    Prometheus, 2012

When I got this CD the other day I was really too tired to give it due attention and I eventually turned it off. Another go today: What a great score! Wonderful so hear Goldsmith toying around with his powerful main theme. That theme IMO has something Barry-ish about it, so Timmer should like it. There is also some Morricone in the dynamics of the score.

With Gunfight at the O.K. Corral, Tombstone and Wyatt Earp this is the fourth score in the line.

The Red Pony Suite of course is pure Americana delight.

The Prague Philharmonic's performance under Nic Raine is again outstanding.

I know it and I like it! Very underrated in the Western genre is Mr Goldsmith IMO.

I'd never thought of it as Barryesque before ( and it's never been a prerequisite for me liking something wink ) but now that you mention it I can hear it. Still, it sounds totally like JG from this period, I don't think there's any Barry influence going on here, just a nice accident.

Though I should add that it's not a complaint given that a) he dead and b) we've got Alien. cool
  9. Somewhere in 2007 on my website someone wondered "how will Jerry Goldsmith manage Rambo 4".

Ponder on that for a while.

    True dat.

Two last points. If Jerry were still alive...

    Ridley wouldn't have asked.

    Jerry wouldn't have accepted.

Also true dat. I got far too excited when I heard it in the cinema, but it hardly seemed worth interrupting fellow moviegoers to announce "Hey, that bit of music we briefly heard in the background just now is actually one of Goldsmith's original themes from Alien!" #lifeofafilmmusicfan
