    The Mummy Returns Alano Silvestrio

    I still contest this is no match for Goldsmith's first score (perhaps his last truly great score), but this is still rather brilliant. I'm on a bit of a Silvestri bender of late, and it's fun.

    Yes, well, there's a £100 joining fee. The almighty Goldsmith, for some reason, requires... ahem... "donations".

    NP : MOVEMENTS - Johnny Harris

    Wonderful album from 1969, mostly cover versions of classic songs but does include some of his own film compositions. This is in the easy listening mould but with a bit of bite to it, some of it is damned funky, I'd describe it as George Martin meets Quincy Jones and I love it! love

    Here's some information on Harris...

    Really, this is honestly bloody great and if anyones interested it's available on Spotify.

  2. NP: John Williams smile

    I started out collecting film msuic as a John Williams fanboy. 25 years ago I would buy any CD I could find with the maestro's name printed on the cover. For that reason, at 850 entries, still roughly 10% of my collection is JW, far more than any other composer.

    There are a number of CDs though that I never ripped to my media library. These JW CD were actually the last film music CDs not present on my PC. I finally had some time on my hands today (Easter break started yesterday.) and I decided to fill that gab.

    Some of these scores are seldom talked about, to all of these I haven't listened to in ages. I will do so in the coming days.

    * 1941 A Comedy Spectacular (Alhambra)
    * Always
    * Earthquake
    * Nixon
    * Presumed Innocent
    * Sabrina
    * Seven Years in Tibet
    * Sleepers
    * Stepmom
    * The Eiger Sanction
    * The Patriot
    * The River
    * The Witches of Eastwick (Collector's Choice)

    Lots of music to rediscover!

    We're still recovering from the Jackman fight!

    Having said that, I'll be reviewing the Zimmer score later on today, after which no doubt I'll be receiving the usual support and praise from his fans.

    rolleyes

    So far from what I've heard I think there's some really interesting and fresh ideas in Zimmer's score. Love the Aaron Copland theme, the voices for Electro remind me of something ripped out of a Nine Inch Nails album. There's woodwinds. shocked A love theme. shocked shocked The dub step is off putting but you know what... it works.

    I had no expectations but I'm enjoying it for what it is.

    PS - One thing that did anger me... the sound effects in the track "I'm Spider-Man" DId we really need to hear street noise in the track? crazy

  3. I agree on the street noise, to be honest. But I like the score.

  4. Beyond Borders - James Horner

    "Cambodia II" might be the most unintentionally hilarious track Horner's ever written. Parts of it sound like a bad porno soundtrack.
  5. I like it. Mind you, I've always imagined it could be an emotional wrecking ball in a film.

    this is one of my favourites by djawadi and zimmer. its a great mix of orchestra and samples and i think the score has wonderful themes and motifs besides the arrangement of the Thunderbirds Theme. i also like the rhythmic-melodic action and the emotional character in the softer tracks. very entertaining score.
