    85? Nah, can't compare to 82 and 94.
    I am extremely serious.
  1. Two rather random choices but:

    1981
    Body Heat
    Das Boot
    Chariots of Fire
    Clash of the Titans
    Excalibur
    The Final Conflict
    Raiders of the Lost Ark
    Wolfen

    1995
While you Were Sleeping (I like that score.)
    French Kiss
    Crimson Tide
    Braveheart
    Casper
    Apollo 13 (Horner all over)
    Judge Dredd
    First Knight
    Waterworld
    A Walk in the Clouds
    Heat
    Nixon
    Cutthroat Island

Just my personal favourites of course. smile

Not bad years at all, but compared to...

    1982:

    E.T.
    STAR TREK II
    POLTERGEIST
    BLADE RUNNER
    CONAN THE BARBARIAN
    THE ESCAPE ARTIST
    FIRST BLOOD
    MONSIGNOR (lousy film, great score!)
    KOYANISQUATSI
    THE LAST UNICORN
    MISSING

    ...and 1994:

    THE LION KING
    FORREST GUMP
    SPEED
    INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE
    COBB
    GOLDEN GATE
    THE HOUSE OF THE SPIRITS
    THE CROW
    WYATT EARP
    THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION
    STARGATE
    LEGENDS OF THE FALL
    BLACK BEAUTY
    EXOTICA
    THE HUDSUCKER PROXY
    THREE COLOURS: WHITE & RED

    ....etc., it's hard to compete!
    I am extremely serious.

I'm not sure about my own favourite 90's list but 1982 is an unbeatable win in my book too. Thor, I love MONSIGNOR and have purposely avoided the film and have no intention of tainting the gorgeous score by watching it.

Missing from Thor's list ( some intentionally ) are...

    THE THING - Morricone
THE SECRET OF NIMH - Goldsmith
    CAT PEOPLE - Moroder
    HAMMETT - Barry
    THE DARK CRYSTAL - Jones
    QUEST FOR FIRE - Sarde
    BUTTERFLY - Morricone

Unbelievable year for quality and still unsurpassed to this day IMO

Six of the scores listed by Thor and myself above are in my all time top 50.

Well, indeed there are a couple of years which are incredibly full of wonderful scores, and 1982 was definitely one of them!

The only one unintentionally missing was CAT PEOPLE. That would obviously also be included. But the others, I'm not THAT big a fan of -- at least not as far as listening experiences is concerned. But I think THE THING is a superb film!
    I am extremely serious.
  2. 1995 is pretty kick-ass, though. Horner's output alone cements it as one of the legendary film score years for me. Then you've got Cutthroat Island, Waterworld, First Knight, Judge Dredd...fantastic year for bombast. No wonder Thor doesn't get it. tongue

Actually, I do enjoy bombast from those years (I adore all the scores you mention!) as I was going ape-shit over it at the time and that enthusiasm has stuck with me even through taste changes. It's mostly newer bombast scores that I have problems with, not those from my formative years.

  3. 1989 definitely.

At any rate, all I wanted to say is that 2015 is already a great year for film score lovers with other highlights coming up.

Jupiter Ascending, Wolf Totem, Chappie, Cinderella...I never though I'd be so happy and it's not even April yet. And I haven't even heard all the smaller scores with potential yet, like Aaltio's "Island of Secrets".
I love you all. Never change. Well, unless you want to!

NP: FIFTY SHADES OF GREY (Danny Elfman)

The CD just arrived. First time I've ordered a CD in maybe a year. I do plan on seeing the movie at some point, but it's not my main priority. The score is fine, although slightly underwhelming. I love Elfman in this mode, but he's done it better in the Morris scores or RESTLESS or PROMISED LAND etc.
    I am extremely serious.

  4. Just played:
Star Wars - Return of the Jedi (1983) - John Williams

    Now playing:
Rise of the Guardians (2012) - Alexandre Desplat

Oh, yes, I can see him do Star Wars. smile

NP: KRAFTIDIOTEN [IN ORDER OF DISAPPEARANCE] (Brian Batz, Kåre Vestrheim & Kaspar Kaae)

The film was horribly bad, but the music is really good. Kinda Tom Waits meets Badalamenti meets...well, something beautiful.
    I am extremely serious.
