Just wanted to copy paste this about tintin from the recent viewing topic:

My god that was absolutely fantastic ! I strongly urge you to watch it on 3d, one word: spectacular ! Pure fun, innocent and unashamed, this is of the best movies I've seen during the last years. Spielberg hasn't lost his touch and proves once again why he is so highly regarded. The music is absolutely gorgeous and the movie helped appreciating the score properly, to which I hadn't really connected before, on cd alone that is. Magical.
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.

Check out this rip I made of the theme to the unaired 1965 pilot WHO GOES THERE? by GILLIGAN'S ISLAND director Jack Arnold (I didn't know how to remove the dialogue, sorry):

The episode was pure crap, and the music is typical incidental, comic tv music, but nice curiousity nonetheless.

Had my first listen to War Horse. I know I'm way behind. Will take a few listens for me to get a good feeling for this one.

    listen to more classical music!
  1. I am not that far ahead of you Tom. I listened to it once when I first got it and have not listened to it again since then.

I have an odd problem with both of Williams's 2011 scores. I just don't feel much like listening to them. I certainly admire the technique of Tintin - no other American film composer is capable of it - but when I do listen to it, I find it's more out of a sense of duty than anything else.

War Horse is very pleasant... but again, I don't much feel like listening to it - there's always something else ahead of it in the queue. I hope I find the love for it that others seem to have.

    Why?
    confused

I don't like either score very much on CD (War Horse edging out over Tintin. Loved Tintin's score in the film though!), and I'm not particularly worried about it! Plenty of other great stuff still to listen to, so why agonise over stuff you don't enjoy?

Here's the song "Uno Di Qua, L'altra di La" from STORY OF A WOMAN (1970):

I have a better version in my collection, but that's the only one I found on youtube.

Am I the only one who gets James Bond title song vibes here? Could this be what Williams had sounded like, had he composed a Bond song?

Possibly, there's a tiny hint. Song writing isn't Williams forte.

No, it isn't (unless the theme itself has been song-ified), but I like this one.

For Always from A.I. is gorgeous in all its renditions IMO.

Absolutely. A good example of a 'song-ified' theme that works very well. Perhaps his best "song" of all time.

  3. Prinses Leia could sing??? shocked

This rocking take on the Imperial March could make a good song.

He, he...fun. But Williams didn't have anything to do with it. A horrible 'song-ificiation', though, I grant you that!

I'm not sure the evidence bears that out. wink

That's actually the main theme to the old Star Wars Force Commander game. The track is -quite rightly- called Imperial Rage, and composer Peter Connell was actually scared to do it at first for fear of fan reaction. cheesy

Of Williams works JANE EYRE in particular is very lyrical, I'm surprised no one has added lyrics to that theme.

Probably because no one ever saw the film (and few have heard of it).

  4. If 'For Always' is the best, then Williams is no songwriter.
