We have name days here as well, but we don't usually celebrate them or highlight them in any way.

As for this incident, it reminds of the Paris riots earlier this year (or was it last year) where one single incident set the Parisian suburbs on fire. Or all the riots involving the Muhammad charicatures - mostly against Danish authorities abroad. It's the "shot in Sarajevo" and all that. One single incident that triggers a whole ballast of inherent unease, waiting to explode.
    I am extremely serious.

Tom, are you all right? I heard the news about the jet crashing in San Diego.

I, too, was concerned when I first heard of the crash in a suburb of San Diego. I think that Tom has posted since the incident.

Wasn't the crash only a couple of miles from where we met?

A jet crashed on San Diego in a tragic freak accident where a pilot lost control of his F18.

The crash was actually 20 miles from where I live. I am close to the commercial airport (3 miles).

After listing Discover Film Music as a separate thread because I felt it was an important release and deserved some special attention and was criticized for doing so I will no longer start any new threads in the future. I've removed the Film Music: A Neglected Art Thread from the site also. I encourage anyone who is interested to please visit the site
    http://sdtom.wordpress.com/

I've tried to explain that doing it with a special sticky thread doesn't work or no one is really interested. They probably visit from other sites. I'm tired of arguing and really don't care anymore. I'll continue to post and will promote my articles on other websites.

To be fair you should create a site for Beth, Mikael, perhaps Jon, and others as sticky threads and encourage them to promote their material in that thread only. I'm sure you'll disagree but I think that would be fair.

    Huh!? What happened?

I will reopen that thread. It would be silly not to link to your reviews anymore. But please, it's not because no one is redirected from here in the first 24 hours, that no one will. Sometimes, people aren't interested too, might happen, but that doesn't mean you should react like nobody cares. smile

Actually, Tom, I always read your sticky "Film Music Neglected Art" thread whenever it is updated to see what's new. Granted, I don't read the actual REVIEWS very often, but that's because I very rarely read reviews in the first place. But just because people don't post actual replies in the thread, doesn't mean that your updates and links aren't clicked on or noticed.

I found it rather petty and pointless that a few felt they had to criticize that there was both a sticky and a new thread (gasp! The horror! Someone call the thread police!). wink

That said, you should probably grow some thicker skin and shrug your shoulders instead of taking it personally. People often criticize here on the internet, if they can find the slightest potential issue of disagrement, as many people enjoy controversy (myself included, admittedly).

I must admit I haven't read your site much yet, since I'm rather busy. But keep it as a sticky. It looks interesting and I'm sure I'll investigate it further in the future when I have time again.

I don't read any film music websites really, I get all the info I need from this forum. I do look at the pictures on Dan Goldwasser's website from time to time though.

I could be less thin skinned by taking more medication with the drawback being a greater difficulty putting my thoughts together. The stroke did permanent damage to my brain which cannot be repaired. I'm grateful for the therapy that has allowed me to continue in society somewhat. 40 years ago I would have been sent home to die.

  3. Tom, I think that you are doing really fine here. I don't always know what you are referring to in particular in your posts, but you're always very informative and I, for one, have entered your website through the sticky thread here. I think people are sometimes too cruel, but as plind say, that's internet, I think.

I think that it's amazing that you recovered from what you went through and keep up the good work.

I am really sorry to hear what you went through, Tom. shame

But I really like your reviews! Though I have little knowledge of Golden Age scores I have visited your site sometimes and enjoyed reading the reviews a lot. I got some Rosza scores recently and I totally agree with your reviews. And I found your reviews of recent scores out here to be very accurate and nice too.

    Keep them coming! beer

I appreciate the support from both of you. It makes my day.

My best advice is to keep the stress in your life to a minimum and watch your diet. Even though I'm on the thin side I had very high cholesterol and I was devoted to my job to an extreme (never smelled the roses). Even though your younger have your blood pressure checked on a regular basis.
