I'll share something that made me feel better yesterday, a bit weird to share this, but after a really tiring reading day, I had a short chat with Hans and he asked me if I'm well, which he never did before in such conversations. Maybe it's a bit weird to be happy about it, but the guy has always inspired me and it was so nicehttp://www.filmmusic.pl - Polish Film Music Review Website -

The nice people of the tax services paid me back what I had paid too much in 2011.
Yay, just in time for the WSA, so I can pay you guys (and girls) a drink when you come to Ghent.Recognizing somebody else's strength doesn't diminish your own (Joss Whedon) -

Moving makes you grateful for all of the things you have. My 79 boxes won't come until next Tuesday. For now I'm still living out of a suitcase with the exception of having my computer hooked up to the internet.

We had a sparrowhawk in the garden this afternoon trying to pick off one of the house sparrows we have regularly in the garden. The sparrows like to sit in a pyrocanthus bush next to the feeders, watching the world go by.
But on this occasion the bush served as a drive-thru service stop for the sparrowhawk as is swooped in and actually landed on the bush as the sparrows just scattered - some of them going deep into the bush (the bush has sharp spines on its branches). I have no idea if the sparrowhawk caught anything as it came and went so swiftly.
After the bird of prey had left the bush was shaking with the activity of the birds cowering inside. Then it exploded as the remaining birds just flew off! Needless to say, it was quite some time before anything ventured back to the feeders.
I have seen the sparrowhawk swoop through the garden once before but this is the first time I have seen it go for anything. The views expressed in this post are entirely my own and do not reflect the opinions of maintitles.net, or for that matter, anyone else. http://www.racksandtags.com/falkirkbairn -

Wow! Would make great footage if you could catch it on film. I think I mentioned before how I saw a bird of prey kill and take off with a wood pigeon just around the corner from me.On Friday I ate a lot of dust and appeared orange near the end of the day ~ Bregt -

Did my knight in shining armour bit today on our way to local RSPB reserve.
As we came around a bend in the road we came across a car coming in the other way that was in the middle of an uncontrolled spin. The last thing we saw was the car heading backwards off the road, through a hedge, disappearing into a field about ten feet below.
After we had stopped I ran back to the scene, not knowing what a I would find. Luckily the car hadn't overturned and had landed with minimal damage. The driver was unhurt but she was very shaken. Unfortunately, the police dispatcher found it difficult to understand me as I relayed the details. But the police arrived and I think she was fine.
She had a lucky escape! If we had have been a bit earlier then we might have hit her. Or if the car had flipped off the road rather than head off backwards...The views expressed in this post are entirely my own and do not reflect the opinions of maintitles.net, or for that matter, anyone else. http://www.racksandtags.com/falkirkbairn -

What's wrong with the Welsh, can't they speak English? ( in fact I can verify that they can't! )

It's funny, but as I was on my mobile, the nearest network mast was in Merseyside so the operator was from there!
I had to laugh when she asked me if I could tell her the car's registration phonetically! Yeah, everyone knows the police's phonetic alphabet!

Sound like it was the 'winter chill' that killed the baboon. And since the leopard had killed the mother, it would have been starvation otherwise.

Last thursday I got my arm out of the cast, with apparently a surprisingly swift healing of the bone (it surprised the doctors, since it should've healed in 3 months instead of my 1,5 - must've been my milk 'n yoghurt loyalty and hot baths of the last month). But it's taken me until today that I can say, 'yeah, glad I didn't go for another 1,5 months' and 'this made my day better'.
My arm felt really, very weak and vulnerable (while I had a very busy week at the office, which didn't mix well), while I could hardly move my hand at all (except for some movement in the fingers), and it was cold and slippery outside, with snow and all. I'm getting some movement in my hand back now, through some rather painful exercises, and if I can get back to normal (which will take 3 months before I have my full movement without pain back) I won't need surgery. If it still hurts after half a year (still an option...) they'll need to break it again to put in a screw.
Seems like the worst case scenario keeps getting worse, but the best case also keeps getting better. I even typed this with 2 hands again! (ok, one hand and a finger, and my left arm hurts badly again by now... but still!). -
