So, there is a rumored Star Trek sequel planned for a 2011 release. And if J.J. Abrams is onboard, then Giacchino doubtlessly is, also. I know there are a lot of people here and out there who can't stomach Giacchino's Star Trek, say it's not like the old Star Trek scores, etc., but the fact is that this man is going to rewrite the history of Star Trek music and throw his name in the mix. Ten or twenty years from now, after a series of younger generation Star Trek movies, Giacchino will be as large a part of the franchise's music as Goldsmith. Horner's Star Trek was vastly different from Goldsmith's, but it has come to be accepted as 'Star Trek music;' why should Giacchino's music be any other way?

There have already been several different composers and scoring styles associated with the franchise, and they have all been accepted as Star Trek music. So why is it a problem to call Giacchino's music the same? Is it the fact that William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, and DeForest Kelley are not commandeering the bridge of the Enterprise? The fact that neither are Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes, and Michael Dorn? I don't know, but I sense an apprehension and resent towards change... And I feel it just as much in criticism of the music as of the new cast. Just my take.

they already said there would be a sequel, even before the first one was released
    so Giacchino will be onboard
    waaaaaahhhhhhhh!!! Where's my nut? arrrghhhhhhh

By that argument, someone could write an utterly crap score for a new STAR TREK film and feel pretty confident that it would be embraced as a classic in time. wink

William, and others, stop with the annoying quotes, seriously. I'll start editing posts with unnecessary quoting; the post you quoted is RIGHT ABOVE YOURS, no need to quote. We need to tidy up the place a bit.

Well... dizzy wink It depends. I'd venture to say Giacchino's Star Trek is not crap. It's just different.
  3. Yeah, Giacchino's Star Trek is NOT crap.

William, please can you stop quoting people if you're reply is right underneath or the discussion hasn't changed. It's incredibly frustrating now and you're even doing it when you simply reply with emoticons - or, taking it too far - to just say you're sorry for the previous quote.

That's because you've never asked someone repeatedly not to do it to only be completely ignored either intentionally or through shear absent mindedness. Or both.

But whatever. I give up. I just come here for the women and mojitos...

Steven, I never understood till today what you or anyone else were talking about regarding me and quoting. And I'm being 100% honest. I always thought you were trying to get at either me or Tom when you mentioned quoting, but I never fully understood what I was doing wrong... Thanks. slant

It doesn't take a genius to work out that if someone is directly asking you (on several occasions I might add) not to quote already 'overly-quoted' replies -especially if your reply is simply 'lol' for example- then you should probably take note and heed the warning (not to mention the 'Quoting for Dummies' thread which you even posted in and assumedly read!!).

Regardless, I'm not angry. It's just a forum, and at the end of the day life goes on... unless you're dead of course.
I'm just a little bewildered as to how you didn't understand it in the first place? dizzy

Btw, the last thing I want is for a horribly regimented and strict Rule of Quoting to begin. Far from it! Just use quoting sensibly, that's all I ask. smile

^This^ type of quoting directly beneath the original post is fine. Just don't go over board.

Cause when one logs into the Giacchino thread, the last thing they will want to read is William being sorry and people trying to explain to him in so much detail a matter as simple as that; anyway, i am not adding more to this.

But you're describing exactly the thing I want to avoid: Regimented and strict rules.

I mean, say we were discussing about Michael Giacchino face-to-face and someone decided to talk about something else, we're not gonna scrub people's memories that anything off-topic was said would we? You seem to have an itchy trigger finger when it comes to deleting posts!
