  1. James Horner - The Boy in Striped Pyjamas

A moving work from Horner, doesn't have DIRECT thematic rips, but references to To Gillian on Her 37th Birthday and A Beautiful Mind are still there. Horner's in his comfort zone, but presenting a very laid-back work based on moving themes.

Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.
  2. In a drama about Holocaust? It's piano-strings based.

I don't mind plagiarism in Horner nor do i even go looking for it, i like his music. a lot. as long as there's not friggin mickey mousing like in the spiderwick chronicles, a huge turn off for me in every form, in every score.
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.
  4. This story couldn't feature mickey-mousing, believe me.

Now playing: All my unrated tracks on itunes. At this moment "Palace music III-The twins" from "El cid" is playing. Think I'll rate it 3 stars.

There are currently 19795 tracks I haven't rated yet. According to my calculations I should have them all rated around June 2016.

And according to Murphy's law my computer will crash and I'll lose all my ratings around July 2016.

NP - Rush Hour 3 - Lalo Schifrin

A perfect example of a good score to a not-so-good movie.

Nemesis 2.....Dammed! this green big Heads always destroyed my ship!

I remember the msx times..and Konami was the KING! beer

Marselus I challenge you to playe Gradius listening "the boy in striped pyjama" tongue (A nice listening experience for sure...But the classical oriented piano theme Im sure it has to be taken from some classical composer..we have to find out!)

I was playing : Quantum of Solace

Yes, Casino Royale is more coherent and it has my favourite Arnold Bond theme ( yes, over his white knight theme)

BUt, QOS has so many textures...that you can disover a new sound in every listen. And Im really addicted to this dark string progressions.

and I insist: "Night at the opera" is mind blowing.

"time to get out" and "the palio" are some of the best action tracks of the year!!!!

Anyway, Probably the best Arnold bond score is The World is not enough ( I know, it seems everyone hates it ).

    NP:You only live twice (barry)

Oh dude...this theme...this theme....You can die for this theme!

    QOS - Not heard it.

The World Is Not Enough - Not bad at all, I certainly don't hate it.

You Only Live Twice - Pure class punk cool

Interview with the Vampire - amazing Goldenthal as usual

Never scene the movie, but hearing the score makes me really want to. How is it? I know it is kinda out there. And how is the book?

Movie is quite lovely actually. I know people who can't stand Tom Cruise but make an exception for this movie. And the books are worth getting into mainly to be aware of the fandom. Everybody'll tell you to just read the first three and stop there, though.

And the best Goldenthal score as far as I'm concerned. A cornerstone of his career, too.

NP Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea (Joe Hisaishi)

(Another) great effort by Hisaishi. Nice theme for Ponyo, rich orchestrations, big choir cues and one Wagner-esque impressive cue called "Ponyo of the Fish on the Wave". More than recommended.

What score is that? which one is it? What the fudge does ponyo mean? I WANT THE SCORE! kthanxbai

    She is Ponyo! biggrin

This song was played everywhere in Japan (on TV/radio, in theaters, book stores, shopping malls, even in pet shops) this summer, so it's stuck in my head (and most other people's heads in Japan) for a long time... sometimes I find myself humming/whistling this song unconsciously.

I haven't heard the score album yet, but it was very good within the film (though not as addictive as the song).

    NP: Enchanted - Alan Menken

I don't say he is the best film composer in the world, but I can say he's the best disneysongwriter of our time! wink

The songs can be good samples of various types of Disney music - from old style (True Love's Kiss), Menken musical (That's How You Know), to modern pop Disney (I was very surprised how Carrie Underwood song worked in the ending scenes!). He also wrote really good score for this adorable film... it's Menken at his best.

Enchanted Suite is so nice smile

Flicking through the TV channels yesterday, I noticed that the film was starting so I watched it for the first time. Great film and one of Silvestri's most touching scores.

Played half of JAMES HORNER - Boy in The Striped Pyjamas (Itunes) but too many synths put me off; will re-visit later though 'cause there are enough textures in there (although most sound like improvisations) to keep me going when in the mood.

n.p. JOHN WILLIAMS - Indiana Jones and the kingdom of the crystal skull

Good film with a different take on vampires ( just love the sequences with a young Kirsten Dunst as the vampire who'll never......okay no spoiler ), cheesy ending but definitely worth time watching.

    Haven't read the books.

Absolutely. And Storybook Ending was one of the BEST action cues of 2007 IMO!! punk
