I'm with you. For some reason I find a really enjoyable album (Much more than Casino Royale, overall I mean. Casino royale is a better score of course)

I know this discussion is very old, but How much of David Arnold Is from Nicholas Dodd???

    ----------------------------

Being listened Kull or Sahara where not only the orchestration but even some minor action motifs are directly ripped from Arnold's Bond scores, I ask How important is Nicholas Dodd??? is he a real co-composer?

Kull and Sahara are competent yet souless version of Arnold's scores. Dodd's is as important to Arnold as any orchestrators would be to any composers. Based on the footage that showed Arnold composing one of the action cues, I would say that 95% of those Arnold sound is indeed from David Arnold.

It freaked me out when I first got Casino Royale and the CD info on the web said it was by Dodd. I was like, what the heck!? shocked confused
But I do believe Dodd's role is limited...
It all just feels so Arnold.

('I'm agree' would be like me saying 'you're agree', which doesn't make any sense. I should say 'you agree', which is why you would say 'I agree'. That's the lesson done for today. cool )

If you enjoy it then that's all that counts.

I've still yet to hear it.

No, it's played after the Bond theme. It's almost like a remix of Talamone with an electronic backing. It was written by Arnold but performed by a band of whom I can't remember the name of...

I really like QOS. I think it's his best since TND. (But then those of you who remember me from the old forum may also remember that I really like it when they incorporate The Theme, which this album does repeatedly. On the first listen I plucked out 7 songs into a playlist. On the second, I added 2 more. Very nice, although it has the same issue that all the Arnold Bond's seem to me to have...the music lacks the cohesive feel that Barry had to me. Still, nice workings of the Bond Theme and some really good travel music in this mix.

A shame we weren't able to bring the old Bond thread over here, you're contributions were top drawer.

Good to have you write out each time exactly what I think about a score myself, so I can just sit back and relax without going through the same trouble and with the knowledge that there's at least some healthy criticism out there!

I really like this new Bond score. It does have a main theme, which is in the almost exactly the same fashion as all his other Bond scores woven throughout the score, but just like in Die Another Day ("Peaceful Fountains of Desire"), it's not as obvious during the first listen because it's not fully developed in a Bond song. What a missed opportunity for the producers; this could easily have been his most consistent score (Tomorrow Never Dies scores higher in entertainment value, but is really an Arnold homage, or even an aemulatio of Barry; Casino Royale suffers from the film's episodic nature a bit), had he been able to write a song to close it all off.

If anything, I think Casino nailed it, and Quantum suffers from the episodic nature. It wasn't originally planned to be a 2 part thing, so to have the music essentially make Bond, Bond at the end of Casino, only to go backwards on itself during Quantum doesn'tmake a whole lot of sense.

Thanks! I actually saved all my write-ups. I had thoughts about putting them on my web page, but I decided they'd need extensive work to do that to my satisfaction. So they're lying around on my computer in text format.

I personally find most of Arnold's Bond music has hints of homage to old Bond music. (When you consider his first Bond project, this makes some sense.) In fact, when Casino Royale came out, I pulled clips of it along with some Live and Let Die clips and put them on the old forum. They were too similar to be chance IMO.

I personally thought I detected notes of DAF and even, sorta' kinda' YOLT in this one. Very subtle, though, so it may just be me. I also find most of his Bond music to be episodic in nature. Lots of short clips, rapid changes between and blends of themes and such like. I would even suggest this is in the nature of Arnold's style when it comes to Bond. Again, just MHO.

Actually, I'll reserve that credit for the people who have actually STUDIED to EARN a Ph.D., like James Horner or Miklos Rozsa. An honorary degree is nice, of course, but it doesn't make you a doctor. smile
    I am extremely serious.
  4. Disney has pulled out of doing the next Narnia movie, so at this point it will not be made. Which means no Arnold score.
The views and opinions of Ford A. Thaxton are his own and do not necessarily reflect the ones of ANYONE else.

No, at this point it means Walden Media have to find a new partner or put in all the money themselves.

I'm not fussed about the film at all, but no film means no score. cry
