How is it Tom? I heard the interview on FilmMusicRadio (he has a hilarious laugh, bursts sometimes almost in tears) and he's quite the interesting composer! The title must also be the hardest to pronounce.

    Rambo Brian Tyler

Okay, so not a scratch on Goldsmith's scores, but it's still a lot of fun (well, if you're in the mood for Tyler's action scoring). I like Tyler's little sub-theme, appropriately poignant I would imagine.

Agree, especially the action cues are thunderous and energetic in the Trademarked Tyler way. I love it.

    NP:Requiem for a Dream (Mansell)

weird score...The main theme (the one is overused in the trailers these days) is quite good, but the rest ....

Interesting hear some ideas who he used in The Fountain, Though

    (I didn't see the movie)

Next I will Play:Beyond Rangoon (Zimmer)

One of my favourite Zimmer scores.

This main theme is one of the most touching theme Zimmer has ever composed (and it has more than 3 notes )
  1. Tyler's musical personality has a lot to do with Zimmer's, though Tyler is rather inspired by harsher rock music. The general source they come from is similar though, indeed.

OK, official notice: I know everyone is just kidding around here, but a bit less of the innuendo wouldn't go amiss.

I don't know if it's making anyone uncomfortable yet (and I'm sincerely hoping not), but to avoid crossing that line, I suggest knocking it off now.

NP: Jingle All The Way - David Newman

I'm right into the Christmas Spirit and so to begin my 2008 Christmas musical journey I threw on Intrada's latest limited edition. This is a delightful, sweet, over the top, all around fun romp! Newman's voice is all over this score, with obligatory mickey mousing, quote from Christmas favorites, a scintillating cover of The Nutcracker, all wonderfully captured and remixed from original session masters. The finale of this score is mind blowing. Newman has demonstrated in the past the he can deliver massive finales that hit the right emotional button - Anastasia, Bowfinger, The Phantom, etc are all solid examples and you can add Jingle All The Way to the mix! Solid effort!

Song analysis... friend of mine (well, my best friend actually) dropped out of Musicology for exactly that reason: he felt the (over)analysis was killing (or at least damaging) his creative spark.
He's a moderately succesful music producer, and a very successful text/song writer for children's TV now, so I don't think he's ever regretted it.

I can perfectly imagine the intellectual approach of something of beauty dulling the edges of appreciation though... you sure you're happy with this direction you have chosen, Steven?
