Thankfully yes. Since this is a tech course, the majority of it is learning (and practicing) studio technology, recording techniques, and getting used to using DAWs. I think the Music in Context unit was an after thought. It all seems a bit pointless and at odds with the rest of the course? It's interesting at times, but it's focused on Jazz, Blues, Gospel and all the rest of that 20th century American malarkey - which holds little interest for me. -

Well, there's always one course that you just have to drag yourself through, innit?

Martijn, I'm sure the view of the park around the corner from me would be 'awe-inspiring' considering where you are situated.
p.s. Great music choice Stavi

Well, the rough separation is whether you want to work with midi and vst instruments / libraries or purely in audio (wav). I work the latter with pro tools but the tendency is to release new versions of DAWs that will incorporate everything, from writing notes and assigning them instrument sound through midi up to recording and editing, mixing and all. Pro tools 8 is supposed to do all of these in one Daw and so are several other of the new and upcoming releases of the major DAWs.Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders. -

Next I will Play:Beyond Rangoon (Zimmer)
One of my favourite Zimmer scores.
This main theme is one of the most touching theme Zimmer has ever composed (and it has more than 3 notes )
I completely adore that score. One of the earliest Zimmers I bought just because of the name. And that one moment in that action track where the man with the baby gets shot, so completely heartbreaking.
NP: Igor, Patrick Doyle
So delightful! Highly melodic, beautiful and quirky at the same time.''The mandate, as well as the benefit, of responsibility is the ability to tell when one can afford to be irresponsible.'' - Me -

Dogma is huge, operatic Shore in the vein of The Fly. Very good stuff, especially if you believed Shore could only do difficult intellectual music like Silence of the Lambs (like I used to believe).''The mandate, as well as the benefit, of responsibility is the ability to tell when one can afford to be irresponsible.'' - Me -

It was Dogma that made this non-believer believe that maybe, just maybe, that Shore was the right choice to score the LOTR trilogy.

^ I was an unbeliever, too!!! I thought: "Howard Shore"?!?? Really???? Whatever happened to the Poledouris or Horner idea!! Do we really want Aragorn to be charging the Fields of Pellenor to the disturbing tune of "Clarice"???
But boy, did he prove us wrong!''The mandate, as well as the benefit, of responsibility is the ability to tell when one can afford to be irresponsible.'' - Me -

But boy, did he prove us wrong!
And then some!
My choice from the begining was Wojciech Kilar, a name that was strongly linked to the trilogy at one point. I'd still love to hear Kilar tackle something with huge epic fantasy scope. On Friday I ate a lot of dust and appeared orange near the end of the day ~ Bregt -

What a tremendous idea!
Kilar LotR would've been epic, I just know it!
NP: Cross Creek, Leonard Rosenman
Speaking of LotR, the man who defined Middle Earth's sound for over two decades before Peter Jackson came along. Cross Creek's main theme really is absolutely gorgeous.''The mandate, as well as the benefit, of responsibility is the ability to tell when one can afford to be irresponsible.'' - Me -
