Thanks for the tips. I tried just now, without success. But I might look around again sometime. Thanks.
You're not looking hard enough.
Also, check you PMs.
Well done, Steven! I'm sure there would have been several additional offers. The views expressed in this post are entirely my own and do not reflect the opinions of maintitles.net, or for that matter, anyone else. http://www.racksandtags.com/falkirkbairn -

Ah, well spotted. I think I'll, er, call them 'personal messages' or 'your inbox' from now on. -

I've just bought a couple of Godzilla titles:
Godzilla vs. Megaguirus - Michiru Oshima
The Best of Godzilla 1984-1995 - Various
Clips sounded good - and I thought that these would give me a good overview of the Gojira universe. Any other "must haves" from people?
How would you describe those scores to someone who hasn't got the slightest idea about them?
I've been listening to Godzilla vs Megaguirus and it's truly awesome!! Fully orchestral, bold and brassy it's a great listen. If you had to criticise the score I'd say that it is a bit repetitive, with some of the thematic material being constantly recycled. But that's just a minor complaint.
Scored by Michiru Oshima (of Kita No Zeronen fame), I'm definitely glad that I now have this:

If you go for it, I hope you like it. I was listening to some choice tracks from this today and I have to say that each of these made me want to listen to the next! And there's a couple of Ifukube tracks also.
BTW, there does seem to be a couple of versions around on Amazon. The one I link to has all the effects tracks gathered to the end - there is another version that has these tracks interspersed throughout. The views expressed in this post are entirely my own and do not reflect the opinions of maintitles.net, or for that matter, anyone else. http://www.racksandtags.com/falkirkbairn -

I've not heard The Soloist, but Azkaban and Titanic are totally-fucking-mega-amazingly-awesome. (And yes, that's my official opinion.) -

Then I guess I (hopefully) made some good choices. -

John Williams - The Minority Report
Edward Shearmur - Johnny English
I have only 5 JW scores in my collection (aside from a compilation). This one makes it 6. He's by far the least represented out of the top composers. -

One Little Indian - Jerry Goldsmith
Don Zeno - Paolo Vivaldi
Off to listen to these now. Always good to hear a new Goldsmith. And I've liked all the stuff I've heard from Vivaldi recently.

Soloist I need to get too. The other two are among my all time favourite scores! -

Minority Report is a difficult pick
Amazingly effective in the movie, but harder to enjoy on CD
But at least chockfull of detail and ideas
All Hail Williamswaaaaaahhhhhhhh!!! Where's my nut? arrrghhhhhhh -

Got another review-package yesterday from Varese
Michael Giacchino - Star Trek
Harry Gregson-Williams - Wolverine
Alexandre Desplat - Chéri
Alexandre Desplat - Coco Avant Chanel
Brian Tyler - Fast And Furious
Mark Isham - Crossing Over
Trevor Morris - The Tudors: Season 2
Of course, this also means 'get to work!', but something tells me I'm going to enjoy this. A lot. -

Ah yes! But I guess I'll prefer it over his action+dynamics fare.

It's just because I can hear all of his works anytime in SST. I can pick up the cds someday. But for now, it's more rewarding to explore others. Besides, the JW scores that I desperately want (like the expanded edition of The Fury) are all gone.
I guess it goes with the joys of exploration. There's more delight in discovering a gem from a lesser-known composer than listening to a well-known one. -

RP: Alfred Schnittke: Film Music - Volume 1
Michael will be pleased that I've picked this one up - a glowing review of his from almost 4 years ago helped decide this one for me (http://www.musicweb-international.com/c … C71041.htm).
Featuring music from 2 of Schnittke's scores - The Commissar and The Story of The Unknown Actor - it's my first experience of this composer's work (in any form). The latter score is far more accessible - as Michael quite rightly mentions in his review - but both certainly hold a broad spectrum of music to absorb! The views expressed in this post are entirely my own and do not reflect the opinions of maintitles.net, or for that matter, anyone else. http://www.racksandtags.com/falkirkbairn -
