NP: Cheri (Desplat)
I can't say this is one of the better scores of the year, as I have hardly listened to any new scores this year. Being the religious sort, I could probably comfortably assert it without any proof (because it's damnmmed good), but rather than offend any sensibilities, I'll just say I love it.A butterfly thinks therefore I am -

So... which one will you take home to your parents - this, or Coco Avant Chanel? -

It's tough. Maybe you were right - I'm cool with having too much Desplat.

I was just listening to Star Trek IX: Insurrection, and while the film is one giant borefest and one of the worst Star Trek outings, Goldsmith's score (as presented on the album) is actually concise, clever and very interesting to listen to, with some very fresh approaches (especially in the "electronic menace" department, to witness the Attack Of The Drones cue) as well as some lovely introspective cues.
Very nice indeed!
I love it, especially the expanded bootleg version (or whatever it is). The official album is NOT the best representation of the score. -

I don't think the film nor the score would be able to sustain a prolonged representation, so the album will do me nicely.

I love it too. It's a great combination of Romantic music with futuristic action stuff.
But How I said yesterday, I can't choose between Goldsmith star trek scores. Star Trek The motion picture is perfect, and by far the best. But between all the other Goldsmith scores for the franchise all of them has his good and his bad things.
All they are good, but not perfect.
NP:Star Trek Nemesis ( Goldsmith)
I find it a really satisfactory album. -

np: The Young Victoria - Ilan Eshkeri
I like this score, mostly due to all the classical cues in the temp tracks that you can hear in the score. But all the "original" portion do fit in well somewhat, due to the consistency in the timbre of the orchestra pulling you from one track to another. I'm reminded of Rachel Portman's The Duchess but that score has a far more original voice working for it. -

I don't enjoy this as much as QOS but this does have some damn fine action tracks.
p.s. This is still nowhere near as enjoyable as Burt Bacharach's version

All together now:
They've got us on the run
With guns
and knives,
We're fighting for our lives.
Have no fear: Bond is here.
The formula is safe
with old double O Seven.
He's got a red-head in his arms.
Though he's a lover,
When you are in trouble
Have no fear.
Look who's here: Jaaaaaaaaaaaaames Boooooooooooond.

NP The 13th Warrior (Jerry Goldsmith)
Dark, agressive, bold, epic....just some of the adjectives I can find to define what is, IMO, a true masterpiece, or like some greek would say, a rare beauty (although beauty is not a word one would associate with a score liek this). Some of the most elaborated and complex action writing from Goldsmith, besides the great, great main theme.Anything with an orchestra or with a choir....at some point will reach you -

So far, my only Powell score.
But I love it.
Wow. You've got some gems to discover in his filmography then. My advice? Get Chicken Run and Paycheck next. (Unless you mean it's the only solo Powell score you have, in which case you may already have Chicken Run?)
I do not yet own Chicken Run. And I'll be sure to check out your suggestions!

Well, I didn't expect it to sound so good. It's a great combination of good rhythmic and/or contrapunctal orchestral writing and electronics. I'm quite surprised by this. -

ZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Boring, uninspired, bland, make your choice. Very disappointed. Not that I was expecting the soundtrack of the year, but this? Ok, I haven´t watched the movie, I don´t know if there are important cues missing, but judging for what Steven said in the Recent Viewing thread, I´m afraid that´s all.
Why would you expect anything good of this?
The guy's bored and he doesn't have a problem showing it since long now.Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.
