Season 1 is the "epic" one which introduces the main themes and several character themes.

As you said, season 2 continues this but not to the same level. I can't really get through the whole disc in one go however, and it only really picks up after "Rose And Bernard".

Season 3 is probably my second favourite after 4 because of all the experimental suspense stuff.

Season 4 to me is all the violent, mental, trombone filled stuff, which I couldn't be happier with!

So which would you recommend that I buy next? confused

    4.

I don't know...I'd go in order. Otherwise you're throwing any thematic development right out of the window.

I also considered that. That's probably what I'll do.

Not at all dear boy, for Giacchino would have to be a god for it to be so.

NP: Race to Witch Mountain - Trevor Rabin

I'm not that biggest Rabin fan in the world, but this beats that crappy twenty-minute-long National Treasure: Book of Secrets album I've got.

  4. NP: NORTH AND SOUTH -- Bill Conti

For whatever reason, I'm not too fond of this one, I've just gotten to the first CD but there's not a lot that warrants hoopla, except for that amazing theme, too much filler I'm affraid

NP : THE ESSENTIAL Nino Rota COLLECTION

Fantastic 2 CD set from Silva, a fantastic compilation from a truly great and underrated ( or at least barely mentioned ) genius.

I lost count of how many times I've played this recently-
Alexandre Desplat - Une Chance Sur Deux

There's a wide range of skills on display here. A thriller/action score that hits all the right moments. While there's a bit of electronics, this is mostly orchestral with a fabulous rousing main theme, a gorgeous French horn theme that would make Jerry proud and plenty of ostinati that screams kick-ass! And in between he has time to go all gorgeous with a tender piano theme.

I am trying to wind up my cd buying and sell off a large chunk of my collection. But scores like this just want to make me prolong the buying.

I wish the 007 franchise chucks Arnold and gives Desplat a chance.

A link with some of the above posts as Mel comes into the room and mentions how good the music I'm playing is, "unlike the rubbish in the film I just watched" ( Mell was watching National Treasure on BBC wink )

NP: Terminator: Salvation - Danny Elfman

If only the terminator theme was in the film and on the album more. Then I'd really like it. But nope. I only heard it in the film twice, and it isn't on the album once.

Definitely a fine score. I remember back in 2002 or so, before GIRL WITH A PEARL had hit our ears, a friend of mine over at the FSM messageboard wouldn't stop talking about UNE CHANCE SUR DEUX, saying this composer was the next best thing on the horizon. It took until BIRTH before I tried to track it down, and I think it's great.

As for 007, hopefully there will be LARGO WINCH sequels. wink

Well, perhaps I would also take National Treasure: Book of Secrets over Race to Witch Mountain, if the former were represented on album by more than only twenty or so minutes of music! slant

    Bolt John Powell

Full of energy, catchy melodies, heart and swathes of charm (a particular aspect that Powell positively exceeds at).

I like them both equally. Horton is certainly the more inventive, but I can appreciate why it wouldn't be for everyone. Bolt is all about heart and Disney feel-goodness (which is great when Powell is doing it), Horton is more about wacky outright zany fun... which I LOVE.

    And I love Powell.

I finally saw this and listened to the score. The film was watchable at best but seriously lacking in laughs. The music was pretty good, particularly a theme that gets a good workout towards the end ( Dick Van Dyke on a stagecoach being chased by Ben Stiller on horseback ), not sure if I'll ever get around to buying it.
