NP: The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian - Harry Gregson-Williams
Certainly not the most creative or original score I've ever heard, but tracks like Miraz Crowned are very nice indeed. -

Yes, and its not actually the complete score. It's a recording sessions and it's not edited so there are huge sections of silence as well as one track that is corrupted and clicks horribly. Plus there are only a few interesting additional cues as compared to the album. So it is not worth worrying about

I didn't realize until reading the boards recently that this score is lacking in woodwinds. Interesting... -

Not something I ever really thought about until Anthony brought it to me attention. Just never felt it needed any as it does its job so well. (The first piece of music heard in the film after a relatively long time without score, 'The Intersection Scene', is a particularly effective piece of film music amongst all the action cues.) -

I really wish Edmund's first encounter with the White Witch was put on the official album. The music is so gentle, but wicked at the same time. Also, some of the battle music near the end would have been nice. -

Yeap! That theme is right up there with Herrmann's Psycho. Though except for Jaws I don't think anything is as singularly iconic as Herrmann's 'stabbing music' for the shower scene. On Friday I ate a lot of dust and appeared orange near the end of the day ~ Bregt -

true, but the simple effective quality of this theme (and also score) shows you how well Carpenter knows his music.waaaaaahhhhhhhh!!! Where's my nut? arrrghhhhhhh -

NP: Coco Avant Chanel (Alexandre Desplat)
The waltz ("Chez Chanel") is simply lovely. The score feels warmer and more accessible than the rather clinical tone Desplat used for Benjamin Button, and the orchestration is so clean and detailed. A wonderful addition to Desplat's body of work.http://unsungfilmscores.blogspot.com/ -- My film/TV/game score review blog -

I may prefer Yared's score more but in no way does that take away from this superb effort, very VERY enjoyable!
Okay it isn't bad by any means, but I wouldn't call it superb... It relies a little too much on past references, and the sound isn't epic enough for such an epic film. Yared's version is superior in every way. Still a mystery to me why in god's name it was rejected.
I do like the song very much however.
Virus (Joel McNeely)
Been a very long time since I put this on. Has some splendid moments, but the score has a touch of un-creativity and blandness to it. Much like the movie it supports in fact. I do like the music however, it shows McNeely at his darker side, and it has a standout action cue in 'Typhoon Leah', and one hell of a rousing theme statement in 'End Credits'."considering I've seen an enormous debate here about The Amazing Spider-Man and the ones who love it, and the ones who hate it, I feel myself obliged to say: TASTE DIFFERS, DEAL WITH IT" - Thomas G. -

man, long time since I heard that score. Indeed, not all is good but there are moments that shows McNeely is anything but an average composer. Needs to listen to this one againwaaaaaahhhhhhhh!!! Where's my nut? arrrghhhhhhh -

I think that Terminator: Salvation continues on from Elfman's very productive 2008. Though, so far, I've found that CD falls away a bit after the first 4-5 tracks.
Glad you liked it Alan! Have you watched the movie? I haven't yet.
No, I've not seen the movie yet. I hope to get to it soon. The views expressed in this post are entirely my own and do not reflect the opinions of maintitles.net, or for that matter, anyone else. http://www.racksandtags.com/falkirkbairn -

Me too. He's becoming ever more inventive with his music, and it's good to have this side to his style as well as the Elfman many are too keen on. (The 'lalalala' choir type... thing.) -

Oh, and here's my playlist which I think gives a better arrangement:
Opening
Broadcast
All Is Lost
Fireside
The Harvester Returns
No Plan
Hydrobot Attack
A Solution
Serena
Marcus Enters Skynet
Final Confrontation
Farewell
Reveal/The Escape
Salvation
"Bonus Cue": The Terminator Theme (from Beltrami's score)
Basically the action is spread more evenly across the album and the most powerful cue, 'Reveal/The Escape' is second from last with the final resolving cue, 'Salvation' to end it. I've added Beltrami's version of the Terminator theme at the very end because it just feels right to end the score that way.
And this is the last time I mention this score for a little while as I don't want to risk repeating myself and become boring. End of transmission. -

I can do without Elfman's female choirs for sure; but this, Wanted, Terminator: Salvation, the man's definitely hitting the right buttons of PROPER modern film scoring. Cheers.Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders. -

I was looking forward to hearing those unreleased battle cues (especially the choral version of the Raid On The Castle theme) but sadly there's no new battle music on here. The only interesting cues I remember are Inside and Across The Melting River. -
