That score deserves praise. It is solid, great fun and unlike most of his score, has a decent structure.

I say BAH! Even by Tyler standards it's not that good.

I personally prefer Bangkok Dangerous smile
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.
  1. I agree with Anthony. Eagle Eye is one of my favorite Tyler scores, but in general things Demetris says now, I've been saying a year ago lol

Well, at that point, you didn't have too many grounds, imo. A lot of auto-pilot scores have been released this year wink

  2. Ennio Morricone: Arena Concerto (2002; DVD)

Right now I am in "Once Upon a Time in the West" (3:05)

Some of these scores I have not heard before.

NP: 2006 Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony and Rugby World Cup Opening Ceremony - Christopher Gordon

    Bah-liss!!!!!!!!!!

EDIT - SCOREGASM! Gordon's Commonwealth Games music literally brings a tear to my eye. So much emotional, so much strength and power in his music. He has a command of the orchestra only the likes of the truly great do. I will NEVER tire of this score. And waiting in the wings to knock me off my ass again is his Rugby music which contains one of my all time favorite themes!!! Those heroic french horns with a sprinkle of woodwinds and xylophone! Then the theme get passed to the trumpets which send shivers down my spine with fluttering piccolo over top and strings racing underneath! Awesome musical colour!

One of my favourite "scores" ever. If ever I made a film (ha!), I'd want Gordon to compose for it.

NP The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 (Harry Gregson WilliamZZzzzZZzz)

Not that I was expecting something great (not even good) but this? It is like a second division version of Enemy of the State but without the themes and the action tracks (!!). I was expecting at least an old fashioned MV theme that could be developed in a couple of action tracks, but there´s no theme, no big action tracks, nothing.
Anything with an orchestra or with a choir....at some point will reach you
  3. Considering the original PELHAM 123 score, the absence of a theme is grounds for criminal charges.

I like Man on Fire, and I was expecting something like that. But Pelham is Booooooooooooooooorinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng.

Even Graeme revell makes more interesting scores than HGW.

I hope someone rejects his score for the Prince of persia movie. I talk seriously.

Giacchino's day (what a year for this composer!)

    I was playing: Up (Giacchino)

Probably his most complete score this year. The main theme is not my coup of tea, because it's old fashioned. But the main character is an old man! so it's perfect.

an addictive main theme, creative orchestraions and exiting action stuff.

    NP:Star Trek (Giacchino)

I don't like the use of "labors of love" in the movie. For some reason I find it doesn't work, and the action music is not so "focused" than in other Giacchino's scores, but IT HAS THE THEME! AND WHAT AN ADDICTIVE THEME!

I Will play (When it will be realeased) : Land Of Lost (Giacchino)

One guy who has watched the movie told me Giacchino's score is a very coherent even if it's constructed in very short cues. Also told me the main theme is not very memorable, but it's so wild (elctric guitars) and creative (Theramin, Goldsmith's Planet of the apes references) that it's worth to buy the cd! wink

    Mulan Expanded Promo (Jerry Goldsmith)

My god did this man possess talent for just about anything they threw at him... Only his second animated film and another complete winner after the wondrous 'The Secret of NIMH'. The energy in Jerry's writing and thematic brilliance from start to end is something most current composers can learn from.

I first start with the 'Suite from Mulan' from the regular album, to be immediately followed by the promo.

    This is Goldsmith Heaven !!!

Better than I remember it being. smile I think most of my lack and liking for this score is due to the fact that I just plain don't like the movie it accompanies. But it is good music.

I think you should stop the HGW-bashing. I'd say it should be obvious that he DOES care, to anyone who read the last interview posted in his thread. It's just that he's been typecast and this is the kind of music he's been asked to write in recent years.
